Dragon Age: Absolution will bring the popular video series game streaming to our screens on December ninth.

Netflix and BioWare are joining forces to bring us a new adaptation of the decades-old video game, Dragon Age: Absolution. And the latest trailer feels very reminiscent of the games the anime is based on. And fantasy gaming in general.

Dragon Age: Absolution

The six-episode series is officially scheduled to come to Netflix on December 9th. And so far we have a ton of reasons to be excited to tune in on the ninth.

The official description on the Netflix website is pretty simple in that perfect-your-latest-RPG-adventure sort of way where anything can happen. And for a brand new adventure with brand new characters in a world that shares a lot of inspiration and tropes with some of our favorite fantasy series, games, and of course, D&D, this feels right.

“With great power at stake, a group of rebel mages and thieves goes head-to-head against a sinister force possessing a dangerous artifact.”Netflix

And of course, the voice cast looks incredibly promising.

Kimberly Brooks (Voltron: Legendary Defender) plays the “pragmatic elven mercenary,” Miriam, Matthew Mercer (Critical Role) is the freedom fighter, Fairbanks, and Ashly Burch (Horizon Zero Dawn) plays Qwydion, a bubbly Qunari mage. Sumalee Montano (Star Wars: The Old Republic) plays Hira, an idealistic mage,  Phil LaMaar (Futurama) is Roland, the group’s warrior, and Keston John (She-Ra And The Princesses of Power) as Lacklon, a dwarven fighter. Josh Keaton (Voltron: Legendary Defender) is Rezaren, “a good man in a wicked world”; and Zehra Fazal (Young Justice) as Tassia, an ally of Rezaren. The series is being produced by Red Dog Culture House (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf).

While Dragon Age: Absolution will feature an original adventure and brand new characters, the lore will all be authentic to the Dragon Age series. And with the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf sharing a setting with Absolution, we may be able to expect a little crossover.

About Dragon Age

Dragon Age is a franchise of fantasy role-playing video games developed by BioWare. First hitting shelves with Dragon Age Origins in 2009, the series has three main games as well as spin-offs with the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf currently in production. Games can be played on Xbox One, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Dreadwolf is expected to be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

All of the Dragon Age games have seen critical and fan success. And with this success, the series has been adapted into books, comics, a tabletop RPG, and now an anime.

This is far from the first animated fantasy series to pique our interest in recent memory. Nor is it Netflix’s first attempt at an animated adaptation of a popular game. And with precedent at setting the bar, our hopes for Dragon Age: Absolution are pretty high.
