The long-awaited second season of Amazon’s fantasy series, Carnival Row, has a set release date and an end to its story.

It’s been a bit since the first season came out. Carnival Row is a fantasy noir set in a Victorian London-esque city where the realm of fae and magic collide. Mythological immigrant creatures have been forced to move to the cities after their homes have been invaded by the empires of man. The growing population struggles to coexist in the grimiest section of the city – the Row. A string of gruesome murders in the area threatens the uneasy peace. Human detective, Rycroft Philostrate (Orlando Bloom), investigates and finds a monster that no one could imagine.

It’s a good match for Penny Dreadful and Shadow & Bone fans. The first full season is available on Amazon if you want to catch up – you have time. A reminder…

Carnival Row Season 2

It’s been three years since the show premiered. The second season was in production not too long after season one had debuted in 2019, but was quickly derailed by the pandemic. They didn’t wrap until nearly two years later. To say the series has had a rough go of it is an understatement.

Amazon has revealed that the second season will be the final season that will wrap the story in ten episodes. Instead of a binge drop like the first season, season two will drop two episodes a week. The story will start directly after the end of season one.

“[The new season] picks up with former inspector Rycroft Philostrate a.k.a. Philo investigating a series of gruesome murders stoking social tension. Vignette Stonemoss and the Black Raven plot payback for the unjust oppression inflicted by The Burgue’s human leaders, Jonah Breakspear and Sophie Longerbane. Tourmaline inherits supernatural powers that threaten her fate and the future of The Row. And, after escaping The Burgue and her vengeful brother Ezra, Imogen Spurnrose and her partner Agreus Astrayon encounter a radical new society which upends their plans.”

Leads Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne are returning; plus Arty Froushan, Caroline Ford, Karla Crome, Andrew Gower, Tamzin Merchant, and David Gyasi. Also returning is showrunner Erik Oleson.

Carnival Row Season Two debuts on Amazon on February 17.
