Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves‘ proves to be truer to its source material than ever, as scheduling issues plague its start date.

D&D fans should feel a sigh of relief after Paramount Pictures pushes back the release date for the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie by four weeks. The studio moved the release date of Scream 6 up while pushing D&D back to March 31st. A move that should be familiar to anyone who has ever tried to get a game together.

There’s always some kind of scheduling mix-up, and you have to move your session back yet again. And the fact that this is far from the first time this has happened, should be comforting to harangued DMs who can’t even get four adults together once a week regularly.

Originally slated for a July 2021 release, the D&D movie, saw the onset of a pandemic, shipping issues, lockdowns, and more contribute to multiple delays that pushed the production start date further and further back.

D&D Movie Delayed

Chris Pine is as Puzzled as Me, via Paramount

At press time, Paramount hadn’t listed a reason for the seemingly sudden schedule swap. Though canny movie-goers might note that the upcoming Sci-Fi film 65, which stars Adam Driver, Ariana Greenblatt, and Chloe Coleman is set to release March 10th. Perhaps Paramount and eOne, who hope that Honor Among Thieves will launch a whole “cinematic universe” comprising movies and TV shows, live-action and animated, wanted to give the movie ample space on the genre movie market.

Maybe Scream 6 will serve as a palette cleanser?

Whatever the case. The movie is now set to release on March 31st. Then audiences will get to see the first cinematic incarnation of the Forgotten Realms, complete with Red Wizards:

…and more as Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page, Sophia Lillis, and Chloe Coleman team up to take on Hugh Grant (who is different from Hugh Jackman, I’ve been informed) in a bid to save Waterdeep and beyond.
