November Brings ‘Black Panther’, ‘Weird Al’, ‘Enola Holmes’ & More
This November, we’re getting some very promising movies from across genres – check out what’s coming up!
We have moved beyond the bulk of spooky season and into that weird period before we get hit in the face with holiday movies. It’s November, and many great films from all genres are coming out this month. There’s a little bit of everything for everyone.
Enola Holmes 2 – Netflix Nov. 4th
Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, and Helena Bonham Carter return for a new mystery. The hunt for a missing girl uncovers a conspiracy theory that may require the whole family to solve. I found the first one (available on Netflix) fun and a great time. I have a feeling the sequel, based on Nancy Springer’s books, will be more of that.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story – Roku Channel Nov. 4th
This mockumentary/biopic is the silly, irreverent tale like Weird Al Yankovic deserves. It’s soaked in the glitz of the music business and claims to give a more in-depth look at Yankovic’s life fans haven’t seen (and is mostly made up). What we’ve seen so far is a bit more than a bit ridiculous. It stars Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al.
Nocebo – Theaters Nov. 4th
Eva Green leads this thriller about a woman dealing with a chronic illness that isn’t what it seems.
A fashion designer suffers from a mysterious illness that confounds her doctors and frustrates her husband. Help arrives in the form of a Filipino nanny who uses traditional folk healing to reveal a horrifying truth.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Nov. 11th
I cannot wait to see this unfold on a big screen. It looks gorgeous, and you can tell that we’re in for some fantastic performances. Do I really need to say anything more about what is likely the biggest comic book movie of the year? See it.
The Friendship Game – VOD Nov. 11th
A group of friends is tested thanks to this sci-fi movie’s mysterious and deadly puzzle box. It stars Cobra Kai’s, Peyton List.
Poker Face – Theaters Nov. 11th
Oscar winner Russell Crowe not only stars in this one but also co-wrote (with Stephen M. Coates) and directed it. Poker Face tells the tale of a Miami tech billionaire and gambler with a penchant for revenge. He is forced to deal with armed home invaders during a high-stakes game at his estate. Can he get out alive?
The Wonder – Nov. 16th
Florence Pugh leads this story inspired by the Fasting Girls of the Victorian era. Talk about Pugh’s performance has been positive and linked to possible award nominations.
Set in The Irish Midlands in 1862, the story follows a young girl who stops eating but remains miraculously alive and well. English nurse Lib Wright is brought to a tiny village to observe eleven-year-old Anna O’Donnell. Tourists and pilgrims mass to witness the girl who is said to have survived without food for months.
Spirited – Apple+ Nov. 18
A new telling of Charles Dickens’s classic A Christmas Carol starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell. It flips the script, though. Instead of Scrooge-y Clint Briggs being shown his misdeeds, Briggs asks the ghosts who they are and what they want. There will be musical numbers. You have been warned.
The Menu – Theaters Nov. 18th
In the culinary world, top-tier menus created by talented chefs with high ratings and stars are sought after. Tables are hard to come by, and the food is at a premium. In The Menu a couple manages to get a reservation at an exclusive restaurant where the famous chef has prepared a lavish menu. But all is not right here – the guests are in for the shock of their lives that has little to do with the food.
Bones & All – Theaters Nov. 18th
Bones and All is based on Camille DeAngelis’ 2015 novel of the same name. It’s a coming-of-age romance story that centers on a young woman’s dangerous journey across the country’s backroads to escape actions she can’t control. Maren has the urge to kill and eat the people she loves. She’s not the only one – there’s an underground culture of eaters out there, and not all of them are safe.
Slumberland – Netflix Nov. 18th
A family-friendly entry starring horned Jason Mamoa, set in a fantastic world of dreams. From the Director of the Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay.
A young girl discovers a secret map to the dreamworld of Slumberland, and with the help of an eccentric outlaw, she traverses dreams and flees nightmares with the hope that she will be able to see her late father again.
Blood Relatives – Shudder Nov. 22nd
This horror comedy is perfect for Thanksgiving watching… wait, I’ll just let the synopsis do the talking.
Francis, a 115-year-old Yiddish vampire, still looks 35. He’s been roaming American backroads in his beat-up muscle car for decades, keeping to himself and liking it that way. One day, Jane, a teenager, shows up. She says she’s his daughter, and she’s got the fangs to prove it. They go on the road, deciding whether to sink their teeth into family life.
Devotion – Theaters Nov. 23rd
Devotion tells the story of Lieutenant Tom Hudner and Ensign Jesse Brown (the Navy’s first Black carrier pilot). The pair is one of the Navy’s most well-known aviator duos. They flew over twenty combat missions in support of ground troops during the Korean War. The cast is led by Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick).
Strange World – Theaters Nov. 23rd
A new adventure from Disney animation and director Don Hall.
The feature film introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob, a three-legged dog, and a slew of ravenous creatures.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – Theaters Nov. 23rd
The stand-alone mystery starts with literal puzzles and revolves around a murder. It takes place on a private island owned by tech mogul Bron (Edward Norton) and involves a bunch of colorful characters ranging from a state Governor to a YouTube star and fashion influencer. It’s another who-done-it with plenty of comedy woven into a story that will keep us guessing. I loved the first one, so I’m watching this the day it comes out.
