‘Horizon Forbidden West’, ‘Stray’, ‘Elden Ring’ & More – Vote for Your Favorite Video Games Now!
This year’s Game Awards nominees have been released, and with 31 categories, there are plenty of games to vote for.
The Game Awards nominees are finally available to the general public. The live stream event was held earlier this week with the actual event to take place on December 8th.
This year there are 31 categories, ranging from multiple genre categories to best adaptation, best events, and more. Once you’ve signed in to their site, you can cast your vote on any or all of the listed categories.
But here are a few of the category highlights.
Game of the Year
Some pretty obvious Game Awards nominees this year. Elden Ring is probably a shock to no one, as well as Horizon Forbidden West. Despite being a very strong contender as well, it does seem a mite early for God of War Ragnarok to be listed, since it was released very recently. And Stray being listed is certainly making a lot of people very happy.
As with many award shows, the strongest entries in Blank of the Year tend to dominate many other categories as well. So, the above entries for Game of the Year are mostly the same Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score, and so on.
Fortunately, The Game Awards have some very unique categories that highlight the broad reach of video gaming.
Games for Impact
Games For Impact is a category that highlights titles with “a thought-provoking game with a pro-social meaning or message”. Each of these Game Awards nominees has a strong message it is trying to convey. Gaming is a powerful tool for storytelling and each of these games utilizes that in a powerful way.
Best Indie
The idea of what is or isn’t an “indie” game is starting to get blurry, and that’s great. With the wide accessibility of development kits and their ever-increasing ease of use, anyone can make games now. All anyone needs are the drive and determination to make it happen. While Cult of the Lamb is an absolutely fantastic game, it would be a shame to ignore smaller titles like the super unique Sifu, or the beyond-adorable Tunic.
Best Mobile Game
We won’t be going over all of the Game Awards nominees, but the last one worth at least looking at is Best Mobile game.
Diablo Immortal received some bad press when it was released, but considering how much money it brought in, you can’t argue it wasn’t a commercial success. Another interesting nominee is Marvel Snap which was also only just released. It is a great mobile card game that respects your time. So much more so than nearly any other mobile game out there. But it feels a little premature for a nomination. It is still in Early Access and does have a Steam release, even if the UI is beyond garbage.
