Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness: Flamers of Tzeentch

Flamers of Tzeentch got one of the biggest glow ups in the new Chaos Daemons codex. When you shine it up and let it be cheap as heck you got the ingredients for a true piece of 40K meta hotness.

If you went to the Kansas City Open this past weekend you saw a crap ton of Daemon armies, Daemon Friendly armies, and just mean ole armies full of Flamers of Tzeentch.

Flamers of Tzeentch are a jump pack elite choice for the Chaos Daemon codex.  They have decent strength, 3 wounds, and an assault weapon that hits like a truck.  They got the flamer based glow up with a d6+3 set of hits that lets a unit of five go crazy when throwing down a pile of flaming death.  Oh and it is assault so these creepy boys can move extremely fast and do the damage they need to do.

Flamers of Tzeentch Basics

They can fly and jump over things mixed with an assault weapon that auto hits for 4-9 hits apiece all at Strength 5, Ap -2, and 1 damage.  Oh and they have 3 wounds too so like a lot of units in the current meta of 40k – 3 wounds is king in making damage feel a bit off.  They are also on fairly small bases utilizing a 32 mm base as well as getting some nice buffs from a Herald and the bigger  Flamer – the Exalted Flamer.

Flamers of Tzeentch are Tough

I did say they are tough, right?  3 Wounds each and sporting the 3+ Daemon save – these guys are a pain to get thru.  You can kill them in assault but again – you have to get there thru the Wall of Flame that will coat you in daemonic nonsense if you get to close.  They also sport a decent amount of attacks so just throwing something in there might not always work out the best for you.

Flamers of Tzeentch are Fast

Oh, I also said how they are fast.  They can jump, advance, and still do damage which can be an important thing.  Another good thing about being fast is they can easily get out, bubble wrap your big monsters, and create a bad zone for an army to move into.  If you don’t have any sacrificial ways to turn off Overwatch or something super tough who can handle it – it gets hard to try and get in there to do your damage.

Sample List

Brent Simon got 3rd at the Kansas City Open this past weekend.  A great player, nice guy, and a really unique take on Daemons.  I talked with him a lot while hanging out with Rob from Goonhammer and his painting trophy.  All his models had some creepy single eye action which made the unique army even more creepy.

Flamers of  Tzeentch Thoughts

I expect these guys to go up as they are currently very cheap at 25 points.  Thankfully there really isn’t a way to up their damage with flamers so we are not seeing the “flamer” hell we had with Dark Eldar with these guys.  They do put the hurt on Harlequins which could be a big reason we didn’t see a lot towards the top at the KC Open.  I am sure if you are in your local chat groups you’ve seen a ton of people looking for Flamers of Tzeentch and this is why they are so hot right now.

Let us know what units you think are hot right now, down in the comments!
