Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness: Ork Kill Rig
The Ork Kill Rig is a big ole tank that works on all levels of the game. It can shoot some stuff, cast some spells, and even punch pretty dang hard.
In a lot of ways, the Ork Kill Rig is a crazy superior Greater Daemon that runs around on a Giant base. It’s huge, it is dragged by some Squigs, and it is “piloted” by a Wurrboy. It shoots too with a crazy Assault Lascannon if it throws out a spell. Plus, since it can throw 2 it has a good chance of Manifesting. Throw in some random No LOS shooting and just an ability to do some damage in the Assault phase means this beast of a vehicle can hold a zone and be a giant pain in the butt for an opponent not set up to deal with it.
Kill Rig Basics
Just like a Greater Daemon you can’t leave this thing alone as it rumbles around the table. Throw in Ramshackle on top of all the other Ork goodies and you got a giant pain in the butt. Its point cost went down to a more reasonable amount. Really the only thing keeping it a bit at bay is just the whole issue of not being able to drive Ghazghul around and the base being very big. A table with a large amount of terrain is a pain in the butt to move around. So this giant angry Ramshackle bit of Ork Nonsense can find it tough to do things if it can’t get to you due to pesky buildings.
It Hits In All Stages of Damage Potential
It can cast spells, punch you in the face, and shoot with an Assault Lascannon. Its only real issue is it doesn’t have a great Armor Save so any high damage ability to hit it – say from Thermal Cannon Knights could spell a lot of damage coming at it. Plus it has a lot of wounds – so many it can’t really hide around the table. Still, it is one of the best “pressure” units you can have just by taking over a large section of the table.
Don’t get your Ork rigs confused…
Orky Pressure
The Ork army is all about putting pressure on your opponent and this is a big example of it. It rumbles ahead, and is hard to remove. The Ork Kill Rig throws out some spells including an AOE option, and then shoots you. If it gets into combat it then has a ton of attacks to keep the pressure on. Keeping your opponent in their deployment zone is the key as the Ork army wracks up points in their backfield and are stuck trying to catch up even if you kill all the crazy Orks in the way.
Sample List
Good ole Jack Harpster of Art of War ended up winning the whole GW invitational thing this past weekend with the following list. Those Ork Kill Rigs do pretty dang good as they can compete on all levels. Jack is a hell of a player who has won a good deal of events with a lot of different lists. Plus he ain’t a terrible guy and is always enjoyable to chat with about 40k, nonsense, and what not. Good job man even though you had to take the win out of John Lennon’s hands in the end.

Ork Kill Rig Final Thoughts
This kit was one of the big splashy options out of the new Ork Codex and one of the main reasons why the army still works. It moves fast, gets to you, and keeps you locked in as their Gretchin and other options score points. It is an ultimate form of a 9th list designed to play the game while still throwing elbows. It is also one of the crazier-looking models with Giant squigs and other bits of nonsense.
