Warhammer 40K: Other Characters Gone From The Astra Militarum Codex
Games Workshop has quietly retired a few characters from the Astra Militarum Codex. What’s the body count at now?
By now you’ve probably seen the news about Yarrick. GW basically said “He’s gone. Probably. Maybe…” and even borrowed a theory Abe had about it was the Orks keeping him alive through sheer belief. Anyhow, that got us wondering who else is missing from the new codex — and if they had replacements.
Ursarkar E. Creed
He’s actually been missing for a while. On the “plus” side we also know where he is — in the collection of Trazyn the Infinite. He’s also getting replaced by his no-nonsense daughter Ursula Creed in the new book.
So he’s technically gone but definitely not forgotten. His legacy will live on.
Jarran Kell
It’s hard to mention Creed and not mention his Colour Sergeant and right-hand man Jarran Kell. He didn’t got missing so much as he sacrificed himself so that Creed could escape the 13th Black Crusade. He bought his commander valuable time. But we all know that ultimately it just wasn’t enough to save Cadia. Regardless, he’s no longer in the codex.
Knight Commander Pask
This is another strange case of a character that was essentially killed off but whose legacy lives on. While Pask isn’t in the new Astra Militarum Codex, you can still have a Tank Commander in your army. You can also upgrade various tanks to have Tank Aces, too. So in a strange way he died so that others could take his place and spread his “rules” around.
Severina Raine
This miniature is based off the Character from the Black Library novel Honourbound. It’s kind of odd that she’s got a model but they didn’t add her in the book as she did previously have rules. Maybe because it was a special release? I’m not entirely sure and I don’t know if we’ve seen the last of Commissar Raine. If you do have the model you can at least use her as a Commissar…so there’s that!
There are also a bunch of old school characters that went Made-to-order a while ago. If they weren’t Catachan or Cadians, they didn’t make it into the Astra Militarum book.
