Age of Sigmar: Galletian Champions Get The Spotlight In The Next Season
There’s a new General’s Handbook on the way for Age of Sigmar and it’s time for your Heroes to shine. Galletian Champions are on the rise.
Games Workshop has announced a new General’s Handbook for the 2022-2023 season 2. That means there’s some new changes coming with the Pitched Battles rules. The current season features Galletian Veterans and Bounty Hunters — which really shined the spotlight on your battleline. Now, it’s time for your Heroes on foot to shine.
“General’s Handbook Pitched Battles 2022-23 Season 2 will shake up the landscape in matched play, as GALLETIAN CHAMPIONS are taking charge on the front lines. This new keyword applies to all unmounted HEROES with a Wounds characteristic of less than 10 – including the likes of swift High Gladiatrixes, fungus-brained Loonbosses, or savage Beastlords.”
Galletian Champion Rules
Within the pages of the new GHB we’re getting new rule for these Galletian Champions. Some are defensive while others are offensive. In both cases, they should shake-up the meta once again.
The Key To Victory, as it turns out, is NOT getting shot full of arrows at range. As silly as that sounds it’s also true! And this special rule allows your newly minted Galletian Champions to avoid the fate of a pincushion.
Your Galletian Champions have also learned the value of Heroic Actions because, if they are going second in the current battle round, they will get to issue two different heroic actions now! Now it’s only one of your Galletian Champions but that will absolutely be a nice boost. If only there were some more Heroic Actions to use…
Strike at the Opening sounds pretty great as it allows your Champ to swing in an off-phase. You do get the strike-last penalty for the rest of the turn but if you time that right it might not matter. Especially if you eliminate a threat by combining it with Lead By Example. That allows one of your new Sworn Bodyguard units to also swing out of sequence!
Now, I’m a little confused by the commentary from the WarCom site here…so I’m just going to screenshot it for you all to read for yourself:
The text says it lets a you fight in the hero phase and then the next sentence says you can’t use it to fight in the hero phase. I’m guessing that’s just an oversight because bases on the actual rule I don’t see why you’re prevented from using it in the Hero Phase (as that’s when you typically issue orders).
My guess is that it’s supposed to read “You can use it to fight in the hero phase, however, that champion suffers the strike-last effect for the rest of the turn.” Or something like that.
Anyhow…what the heck is a Sworn Bodyguard!? Those are a new type of designation thanks to one of the three new core battalions you’ll have access to. The battalion pairs one Galletian Champion with a single unit of infantry.
This Battalion creates a nice little one-two punch for your units in the Combat Phase. This is also how you’d use the Lead By Example Heroic Action, but that’s pretty obvious from the section above.
Along with all these new rules will be more rules for fighting in the Mortal Realms. There’s a new Realm Spell, a new Command Ability, and a bunch of new artefacts and unique enhancements, too. Oh and of course there are more Grand Strategies (6), Battle Tactics (8), and battleplans (12) to play with.
The Game Changer is back again.
