‘M3GAN’ New Trailer Takes Creepy Dolls to the Next Level
The latest M3GAN trailer reveals more of the AI-powered doll’s murderous misdeeds. You don’t want to be on her bad side.
James Wan is known for bringing Saw, The Conjuring, and Malignant to the screen. He is one of the most prominent voices in horror today – whether he’s directing or producing. His next project focuses on a familiar horror trope, giving it a technological twist that combines several fears into one children’s toy.
In M3GAN, a roboticist at a toy company uses artificial intelligence to create life-like dolls. They are programmed to be a kid’s best friend and help parents keep tabs on their kids while keeping them safe. When the roboticist takes in her orphaned niece, she gives the girl a prototype of the doll she’s working on. A choice that she will regret. It starts with an ‘accident’ and quickly becomes a killing rampage when M3GAN becomes sentient.
Of course, I’m going to watch it. This brand of ridiculous horror is a personal favorite – how could I not? I didn’t think he could make something wilder than Malignant, but it looks like he’s done it. Haunted doll stories have been around since at least the early 1800s. While the idea isn’t groundbreaking, the execution is sinister and creepy. Its star has that exact, inorganic robotic movement that’s really unsettling – her lack of facial expression leans into that even more.
WHY, JAMES WAN!?! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS!?????

From the most prolific minds in horror comes a fresh new face in terror. M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma, M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to. When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady, Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.
