Rhino is joining the Marvel: Crisis Protocol line-up and we’re getting a closer look at what this rampager can do!

When it comes to classic Spider-Man villains Rhino always comes to mind. He might be a “dude in a Rhino suit” but that’s such an oversimplification. Today, we’re getting to know a bit more about Rhino and what he can do on the tabletop.

“Aleksei Sytsevich began his career as a simple thug in the Russian Mafia with high hopes of quick cash. Tempted by the promises of wealth and power, he agreed to undergo a risky procedure to transform him into his boss’ personal weapon. A powerful suit of armor was modeled after a rhinoceros’s hide and permanently bonded to his flesh. But playing pawn didn’t suit the aptly-named Rhino, and Aleksei chose to rampage not for the mafia, but for himself.”

Rhino is going to be a big character on the tabletop. He’s a Threat 4 character already and comes in with a size of 4. He’s only got a move of Short — but that’s a bit deceptive because this Rhino is a lot more mobile than you might think.

His basic attack is Gore. Note the range of 3 for attack which is already nice. Plus it starts at a base strength of 5. However, it’s got two nice effects for a “basic” attack. First up, it generates more energy. But the second part is really nice. It allows you to place Rhino within range 1 of the target. Suddenly that range 3 is also a movement tool! That’s a nice chunk of distance for such a big character to jump.

If you really want to get the ball rolling with Rhino you want to fire off Stampede first and then Gore. Not only does this Push Rhino a distance of medium, but he also gets a nice damage boost to his Gore attack with +2 dice. Oh and any size 2 or smaller interactive terrain feature gets DESTROYED as Rhino charges right on through them!

Rhino also has three other abilities that he can use. Nobody Ever Accused The Rhino Of Good Manners might sound like something Spider-Man would say but it’s also a super power Rhino has that allows him to throw interactive terrain features size 4 or less distance medium! He’s got to be within range 2, but still…handy.

He’s also Aggressive so if you hit him and manage to do damage he may advance distance short toward the attacker. Two things about this one. First it’s a “may” so the owning player can choose. Secondly, I don’t see anything about this being a “once per round” thing either. He’s also nice and Ornery which gives him an extra energy whenever he’s damaged by an effect. Rhino Hide is also one last defense for him as it lowers the damage he suffers from enemy effects by 1 to a minimum of 1.

It’s also worth noting that Rhino has a stamina of 7 while healthy and 6 once he’s injured. He’s not going to go down easy! I look forward to seeing this massive monster of a man on the tabletop.
