Games Workshop put out a ton of cool stuff for Necromunda this year. We’re taking a look at our favorites from the Hive — and beyond!

Necromunda has had a bang-up year of cool releases. Today, we’re going back over a few our favorites and why. We’re not counting Forge World models this time around but they did have some great additions, too. So let’s get into our list! Here they are in no particular order.

Ironhead Squat Prospectors Gang

The “Squats” had a big year in 40k. Folks got to see them come back in a new form but these abhumans have been hanging out on Necromunda for years (apparently). They got a new release right before their cousins in the Leagues of Votann made a splash. They were a fun addition to Necromunda and added an interesting faction to the mix.

Necromunda: Ash Wastes

Oh man was this a heck of an expansion or what?! We got a brand new faction with the Ash Waste Nomads introduced with this box. We also got the excellent hab terrain. The Orlocks got Quads to ride around in. But perhaps most importantly we got our first steps outside of the Hive Spires of Necromunda and got to explore the Ash Wastes.

Necromunda: Book of The Outlands

The Book of the Outlands added all the lore for the Ironhead Prospectors and also the Ash Wastes Nomads. These two factions were really the two that prospered outside of the Hives in their own ways. For lore junkies this book was a solid addition to the world building and filled in some blanks about the Outlands. Also, it had rules for vehicles for the Orlocks and more. Speaking of vehicles though…

Cargo-8 Ridgehauler

The Cargo-8 Ridgehauler is probably my personal favorite kit from the entire year for a few reasons. First up, it’s massive! The truck bed is large enough to fit a Rhino inside. Secondly, narratively speaking, when this thing is on the tabletop you can’t help but tell a story around it. The Gangs want to get a crack at it’s cargo and the crew just wants to get to their destination. It’s your own version of Mad Max every time.

Finally, I really appreciate the thought that went into this kit and all the various additions. The Trailer can be hitched up and a massive caravan. You can build the undercarriage with 6 or 8 tires. And all the additional things you can haul with this kit like the cargo containers or the Promethium tanks. I’m just wondering what else GW has planned for the truck bed of the Cargo-8 Ridgehauler later…

Necromunda: The Aranthian Succession – Cinderak Burning

Last but not least on our favorites list is the Cinderack Burning book. This book advanced the lore in some truly planet-shaking ways. I’m not going to get into all that here but the repercussions of the events in this book are going to push the story of Necromunda forward for years to come. This book marked the first time in almost 30 years that GW actually had Necromunda’s story move beyond just gang fights. We got to see how the events of the Great Rift impacted the planet and what an open rebellion looks like. The stage has been set and the Necromunda is moving and shaking — now we’ll have to see how GW follows up with this story.
