‘Parasite’ Director Returns to Sci-Fi with Robert Pattinson in ‘Mickey 17’
Dying isn’t any fun, but at least it’s a living in Mickey 17 – a new sci-fi movie from Parasite director Bong Joon Ho.
Bong Joon Ho came home with a pile of well-deserved awards for 2019’s Parasite. The director is returning to sci-fi for his next movie, Mickey 17. The project is based on a novel by Edward Ashton that’s set during a time of human expansion into the cosmos. In this futuristic timeline, Expendables are disposable employees/clones that are sent on dangerous missions that humans can’t deal with. When an iteration of an Expendable dies, another is spun up along with most of their memories.
Robert Pattinson stars as an Expendable sent on a challenging expedition to colonize an ice world called Niflheim. After so many deaths and regenerations, Mickey learns what his colonial mission is and why it was the only job unfilled when he took it. When Mickey 17 is lost and considered dead, Mickey18 is spun up. But there’s a problem – Mickey 17 isn’t dead.
