Come join me, young reader. For today we will look, at this classic Grinch board game with a classic Grinch crook.

The Grinch board game is like many before.
That is to say, it can be quite a bore.

Not owning the game is quite a blight, so gathered these pictures from this website.

Players take turns with the spinner in hand,
using that to determine where their pawns will land.

Why the 2’s the largest space, I cannot say. Perhaps it’s to save children from the 1’s dismay.

Each player claims their pawn, moving as much as allowed.
Finding the letter on that space, then reading aloud.

For those literate grown, this is somewhat of a snore,
But for the target audience, this can be quite a chore.

The letter, now read, your attention is turned,
to the pile of gifts, to apply what you’ve learned.

The gifts lie face down. One chosen by choice.
Reveal the underside to all, and perhaps you’ll rejoice.

Remember speaking your letter? It’s not been a while.
If the gift starts with what was spoken, it’s added to your pile.

Matching letters to gifts, such as B is for Bows.
I could go on, but you know how the alphabet goes.

Grinch spaces lose you a gift, Cindy-loo gifts any for free.
That’s fine, I guess, but seems tacked on to me.

The Finish space landed brings the game to an end.
For those aged more than three, this might be a godsend.

The gifts are all counted, granting the most gifted the Win.
The rest are left wallowing, feeling chagrin.

I jest and I joke, but the game’s not that bland.
It’s certainly better than my nemesis, Candyland.

Choices and memory and reading skills too.
For those of the right age, it tests what you knew.

So now here I leave you, ready to play.
I hope my bad rhyming didn’t scare you away.

And for those fans of the Seuss, you might know I’m a cheater.
I wholly admit to fudging my Anapestic tetrameter.

Thanks for reading!
