Shudder’s Surprising Most-Watched Series Renewed for Season 5
I’m not surprised – I’ve loved this show since before it came to Shudder. But now it’s doing big numbers with a new season on the way.
Shudder is my favorite horror network. I mean, billed as the Netflix of horror but for a fifth of the price, the streaming network has put its weight behind some pretty unforgettable original pictures, amazing documentaries, and terrifying anthologies. Shudder has also acquired streaming rights to a series that has now officially become its most-watched series program.
The Boulet Brothers & Shudder: A Match Made in the Pits of Hell
In late summer of last year, Shudder and drag super-monsters the Boulet Brothers announced they would be teaming up to host a brand new fourth season of Dragula, the punk rock, horror-fueled drag competition show with three seasons under its belt. The first season was remastered and added to the platform, and soon after, a brand new season four aired there too.
Shortly after that, glamour ghouls Swanthula and Dracmorda Boulet announced the coming of Dragula: Titans, the show’s first legacy spin-off. Instead of elimination challenges, the contestants have to perform a Fright Feat every episode – including a tug-of-gore, eating brains, and a pretty terrifying water situation. The show also pulled themes both new and pulled from some of the past seasons’ best floor shows. The D&D performance challenge, the Basic Bitch (with a zombie twist), and Science Fiction Double Feature are all highlights – and they’re judged by some incredible celebrities, including Mistress of the Dark and friend of Shudder Elvira.
And now, thanks to Titans, The Boulet Brothers Dragula is Shudder’s most-watched series.
Dragula Season 5 is Coming (Insert Slasher Music Here)
In an official statement, the Boulets reinforced their plan to form a Dragula universe.
“We’re so excited by the insane response to the new spin-off, and so happy people are loving it. Expanding the Boulet Brothers’ Dragula cinematic universe has been our goal since the beginning, and with the success of Titans firmly in place, we’re excited to move our focus to opening casting for Season 5 and taking the show into a bold, new direction.”
The Boulet Brothers Dragula Universe
Created and hosted by drag-underworld royalty Dracmorda & Swanthula Boulet, Dragula season 1 premiered on YouTube back in 2016. Capturing the spirit of their numerous nightclub shows and alternative-style stage competitions, the Boulet Brothers have built a cult following among fans all over the world.
The Boulets’ challenges are designed to push competitors to create some of their scariest, weirdest, and campiest concepts. You can stream Dragula seasons 1-4 and catch new episodes of Titans just before midnight on Monday nights (CST).
Tune in, Uglies!
