It’s almost time for the next new season of anime, and these are the upcoming shows we can’t wait to tune in for.

It’s almost time for the new season of anime releases. As the current season of anime offerings heads toward their season finales and begins to wrap up, let’s take a look at a few of the animes we’re looking forward to starting. We’ll be coming back for second seasons as a matter of course, so we’re just going to focus on new shows today.

Trigun Stampede

This remake of one of my early 2000’s favorites has me cautiously intrigued. The 3D-style animation is a little weird and I hate the lack of Milly. But besides that, I have to say I’m very interested in what a reimagining of this show looks like. Unlike FMA’s remake, Trigun Stampede doesn’t look like it will follow the manga more closely but instead do its own thing completely. Will this be good? Who knows! Will I be tuning in for it? The first moment I possibly can.

NieR: Automata Ver.1. 1a

Animes based on video games have been more and more common recently. And they’ve been good. So We’re optimistic for NieR: Automata. The game is a wild ride with multiple possible endings. So while the show is supposed to follow the game, we’ll all be in for a bit of a surprise when it comes to how they’ll handle the ending.

Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre

I can’t wait for this one. Junji Ito has been the anime authority on all this creepy and spooky and this upcoming show will adapt twenty stories from his manga. Included will be Tomie, Souichi, and Kubitsuri Kikyuu (The Hanging Balloons). But to be perfectly honest, I’ll be tuning in for every single one of these regardless of what the lineup was. If you’re a fan of horror, weirdness, or just Ito’s work, definitely check out Junji Ito: Maniac on Netflix on January 19th.

Handyman Saitou in Another World

There are a lot of isekai animes out there. Because as a collective most of us don’t want to be… here. School and desk jobs are boring, but you know what’s exciting? Going on adventures with a wizard! But the genre is so saturated that it takes something a little extra to pique my interest in an isekai. Last season Uncle From Another World riffed on the trope enough to get me watching, and next season Handyman Saitou in Another World may do the same. Saitou is a handyman and that’s useful in the fantasy world. I can’t put my finger on what about this concept is so funny to me, but I’ll definitely be checking out at least a few episodes.

The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague

This show looks adorable and perfectly wintery. Himuro is a totally normal office worker except that he has ice powers he’s not 100% always in control of. He’s also got a crush on Fuyutsuki. The concept is cute, and I’m a bit of a sucker for slice-of-life (well, sort of) shows about adult characters.
