Warhammer 40K: So…Where’s The Astra Militarum Codex?

It’s been about a month since the Army Box dropped. So…where’s the Astra Militarum Codex?

So the Astra Militarum army box went up for pre-order around this time last month. It’s shipped, it’s in stores, and it’s a pretty good deal. But now we’re wondering where the heck the standard codex is at now?

According To The Road Map…

When you get lost it helps to check the map. So what did the Road Map say for 40k?

This was the latest Codex Road Map for 40k. We have an Astra Militarum book slated for “winter” before the World Eaters book (also for winter). Assuming that GW means to release them in order from left to right, that means we should be seeing the Astra Militarum Codex before the World Eaters, right?

At the same time, I’m wondering if the Astra Militarum Army Box counts as a codex release. Typically, those two things are separate releases because the Army Boxes are typically limited runs because they have the special edition versions (which are just variant covers). But the AM box is still available. And we don’t have a new Standard AM Codex in sight. At least not for this coming weekend.

We also know that at some point also slated for “winter” release windows are the Arks of Omen books for Abaddon and Angron. I would think the two Codexes would drop before these books, too. I just wish we had more accurate time frames for “winter” with actual dates. What’s that? We do? Because of a what-a-nac?

Oh. Well there you go! According to Google (and almanacs) those are the official dates for Winter kicking off in 2022. Winter officially starts next week on the 21st! So maybe GW is right on time and we’re just being impatient. By next week GW will basically have 3 months to release all 4 of those books. That probably means the AM Codex will be either right before or right after Christmas and we’ll probably see the World Eaters in January. That leaves Arks of Omen for February and March. No need to panic…yet.

Winter is coming…no seriously, it has an official start date and everything!
