Adam Warlock is Golden in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’
Adam Warlock – one of the biggest threats to the crew in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – just came into focus.
The first hint that Adam Warlock was coming was in a post-credit scene in Guardians Vol. 2 – after the defeat of The Sovereign. An angry Ayesha revealed a golden birth pod, stating “that, my child, is the next step in our evolution. More powerful, more beautiful. More capable of destroying the Guardians of the Galaxy.” She’s confident… to a fault.
After six years of waiting for the gold guy to come out of his fancy pod, we got a brief look at the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Recently, Empire shared a better look at the perfect Sovereign on his way to beat up something important. James Gunn told the magazine a bit about the casting process.
“People online were saying, ‘Oh, Tom Cruise should be Adam Warlock. I wanted somebody who was youthful, and I wanted the person who had the dramatic chops and the comedic chops, not only for this movie but for what Marvel will use Adam Warlock for in the future.”
The 6’3″ tall actor is definitely an imposing figure – something that’s needed to portray the lab-grown godling. Warlock was created to be the next step in human evolution, a perfect being that his creators could use to carry out evil plots. Sounds about right for Ayesha’s purposes, but there are others in the trailer that take interest in using Warlock’s abilities for their own ends.
Who will be his master? The Sovereign? The High Evolutionary? Warlock himself?
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Details
James Gunn is back in the director’s chair and he wrote the script based on the comics from Dan Abnett. The case sees the return of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha. Also joining the film is Maria Balakova as Cosmo the Space Dog, Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, and Chukwudi Iwuji as The High Evolutionary.
Volume 3 is the second movie in Marvel Phase 5, after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantimania. The movie’s story is still under wraps, but we know that this will close the trilogy that Gunn is doing for Marvel Studios. Rocket looks to be going back to his roots and confronting The High Evolutionary, the man that created him. And then there’s the unfinished business with Ayesha and The Sovereign. There’s a lot going on in this final chapter.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5.
