Adult Swim & Others Cut Ties with ‘Rick & Morty’ Co-Creator Justin Roiland
Following felony domestic assault charges against him, Adult Swim and Squanch Games have cut ties with Justin Roiland.
Justin Roiland has been dropped from Rick and Morty. Work on season seven is still moving forward without him. Hollywood Reporter says his voice roles will be recast. No word on if the team is going to create more seasons beyond the seventh – it would be understandable if they made this the show’s finale. Adult Swim ordered 70 episodes (through season 10) back in 2018.
The official Rick and Morty Twitter account posted the announcement: “Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland. Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on Season 7.”

Beyond Rick and Morty
The Adult Swim announcement was followed by news that Justin Roiland resigned from Squanch Games on January 16th. He founded the studio with Epic Games executive producer Tanya Watson in 2016. The studio released games like High on Life, Dr. Splorchy Presents: Space Heroes, and Trover Saves the Universe.
Squanch Games tweeted: “The passionate team at Squanch will keep developing games we know our fans will love while continuing to support and improve High On Life.”

This morning 20th Television Animation and Hulu Originals told Variety in a statement: “We have ended our association with Justin Roiland.” This removes him as executive producer of Solar Opposites and Koala Man. Both will continue without his involvement.
Justin Roiland Felony Charges
Roiland faces felony domestic violence charges. According to Orange County court records, Roiland faces “one count of felony domestic battery with corporal injury” and “one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit.” The charges are related to an event that took place in January 2020. Roiland was arrested and later released on a $50,000 bond. He pled not guilty at his arraignment in October 2020. NBC News reported on a recent pre-trial hearing related to the charges; the court case is ongoing.
