‘Community’ Movie Filming Imminent According to Joel McHale
The universe is an endless raging sea of randomness. Our job isn’t to fight it but watch the Community movie.
Last fall, Peacock announced that the ‘six seasons and a movie’ plan was becoming a reality. Creator Dan Harmon joined Six Seasons and a Podcast to talk about his story plans last month (listen here). This previous Friday, Joel McHale revealed they’re going into production this summer.
Jimmy Kimmel: “You guys are working on a [Community] movie, right?”
Joel McHale: “We are, we’re making the Community movie in June, so… thanks for remembering.”
It’s happening.
The Community Movie Cast…?
Some of the cast members are confirmed to be on deck. According to reports, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong will be back. That leaves Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown. Harmon is optimistic that they will join the project in the next few months. From his perspective, figuring out contracts and schedules is all that’s needed. Telling Variety:
“I think if there’s names missing from a list, it’s because the names that are on the list, and their deals are agreed upon enough that it’s OK to say they are on the list, and anybody that’s not on a list, it’s just not the case yet. So there is nothing official about anybody being out.”
Personally, I won’t be tuning in unless it’s a reunion more in line with the first several seasons – with the non-toxic cast. Many folks won’t tune in if they can only gather part of the Greendale Community College crew. The magic just won’t be there without Troy and Abed’s commentary or Shirley’s good-natured rage.
What the Heck is Community?
So… you’ve never watched the show. It starts when former lawyer Jeff Winger has to go back to college to get a legit degree. He ends up creating a Spanish study group with an eccentric group of students, but they rarely study Spanish. Instead, they get into campus-wide paintball fights, deal with various ridiculous plots to take over the school, build giant blanket forts, and more. They even play with alternate timelines, and there are animated episodes and amazing guest stars.
Like Rick and Morty? Watch this show (it’s better, imo). If you like Dan Harmon, watch this show. Do you enjoy things that are funny? Watch this show. The nearly complete six-season run is streaming on both Hulu and Netflix – you’ll have to find the D&D episode elsewhere, though.
