Crunchyroll Releases Sneak Peek of ‘Trigun Stampede’
Trigun Stampede premieres this weekend, and to celebrate Crunchyroll has released this sneak peek of episode one.
Vash the Stampede is officially back this week. Trigun Stampede is set to premiere on Saturday January 7th at 8:30 am PST. And to get us as hyped up on love and peace as possible, Crunchyroll release this special sneak peek of a minute and a half long scene English subbed scene from episode one.
The show looks fun, the CG-style graphics look smooth and clean, and Meryl is (still) a tiny little badass who gets things done. But Vash may be too goofy, which as a fan of the manga doesn’t feel like the right direction. All in all, I’ll definitely be tuning in on Saturday, excited to see more and start forming a full opinion.
Trigun Stampede
Crunchyroll describes Trigun Stampede as:
“Vash the Stampede’s a joyful gunslinging pacifist, so why does he have a $$6 million bounty on his head? That’s what’s puzzling rookie reporter Meryl Stryfe and her jaded veteran partner when looking into the vigilante only to find someone who hates blood. But their investigation turns out to uncover something heinous—his evil twin brother, Millions Knives.”
This reimaging of the 1995 manga and 1998 anime will tell a familiar story with a few key changes. Meryl was previously an insurance adjuster alongside Milly Thompson, but now she’s a reporter with a new partner, Roberto De Niro. It also looks like the series will take place a little earlier in Vash’s life since his bounty is so much lower than we’d seen it before. But major details like his backstory, brother, and rogue’s gallery of villains looks like it will be mostly the same. At least based on what we could see in the trailers so far.
We will have to wait and see for sure, but the wait won’t be that long seeing as episode one will be streaming this Saturday at 8:30am PST.
Classic Trigun
Originally published in 1995, the Trigun manga ran for sixteen volumes and with a twenty-six-episode anime run in 1998. It followed Vash The Stampede, a man with a 6 billion double-dollar bounty for crimes against humanity. But when people meet him instead of finding a monster, they find a goofball pacifist who’s more interested in amicable problem-solving and donuts than shootouts. Though he is surprisingly good at shootouts. It’s a show that starts as a silly comedy-western and takes a hard turn toward sci-fi with a lot of important questions along the way about the importance of life and the nature of being a non-violent person in a very violent world.
It’s a modern classic and both the original run of the anime and the manga are entirely complete. So they’re perfect for diving into without worry of between-season cancelations or infinite manga hiatuses.
