Someone is about to get a mace to the face with the latest (and first) Rumor Engine of the year from Games Workshop.

We’re back on schedule with the Rumor Engine as the first one has dropped for 2023! Perhaps this one was inspired by the ball dropping to ring in the new year. Or maybe this was just a happy coincidence. In any case it’s pretty clear what we’re looking at but that is just the start of the mystery that is the Rumor Engine.

“As part of a new initiative for 2023, the Rumour Engine is to be sponsored by several galactic interest groups to help foster co-operation between the stars.

This week’s post is brought to you by the public relations department of the Mercator Pallidus – the friendly face of food! Note that your local Corpse Guild is not liable for any actual faces found in food products.”

So we’re looking at a pretty typical mace here. Well, maybe not that typical as it looks more like a morning star with the spikes filed down. Anyhow, with the look of it as well as the teaser text I’m wondering if this is from 40k or not. Specifically, I’m wondering if this is s a tease for something from Necromunda.

Initially I was thinking this looked like something that a Cawdor Ganger might be wielding. The wrist wraps made me think of them. That said, I’m also curious about the hand that’s holding this mace. It looks humanoid but what’s up with the nails? Maybe it’s just the paint job but they look kinda…alien.

Hmm. I wouldn’t rule out some new Tyranid Hybrids for the Genestealer Cult either. Who knows what the heck they’ve been working on (genetically speaking). That could be a long shot however.

Let’s not forget that the Age of Sigmar is also ramping up on the Battletome front. There could be many models and one-offs coming with these books. This is a relatively simple looking mace which wouldn’t be completely out of place in the Mortal Realms.

So what do you think? I’m turning this one over to you Internet Detectives! If you’ve got a theory please drop us a line with your idea in the comments. That’s part of the fun when dealing with Rumor Engines afterall.

It’s a mace but is it from space?
