James Gunn Announces New DCU Shows – ‘Green Lantern Corps’ is Back
Today’s announcement also came with a slate of new DCU shows from across the comics – including the return of Hal Jordan to live action.
James Gunn took to Twitter to announce the plan he and Peter Safran have been working on. They haven’t been alone; the co-CEOs brought together a fantastic writers’ room – Drew Goddard (The Martian), Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), Christina Hobson (The Flash, Batgirl), Christal Henry (Watchmen), and long-time comics writer Tom King. Some will be staying on to work on upcoming projects.
According to Gunn:
“We sat down in a room for a few days and we started to bash out what the basic overall plan could be. Not so much that it ties your wrists, but enough that we know what the basic story is, where we’re going. And it’s something that we’ll continue to do.”

Along with the new movie slate, these projects will connect to the DCU…
Creature Commandos – Animated Series
This project is already in production. This monster mash debuted in Weird War Tales in 1980, and they’ve already had a few small screen appearances. This incarnation features Frankenstein’s monster, Weasel, and Rick Flag’s father, Rick Flag Sr. Gunn plans to have the voice actors reprise their roles in live-action later.
Waller – Live Action Series
While Gunn is focusing on Superman: Legacy, the second season of Peacemaker is on hold. Fans will see more of the characters in this series that focuses on Amanda Waller and what happens after Task Force X is outed. It has also given Doom Patrol creator Jeremy Carver a new home – he’s showrunner.
Lanterns – Live Action Series
The show will focus on Green Lantern corps members Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a mystery that “plays a really big role leading us into the main story that we’re telling across our film and television.” The two characters haven’t always been on good terms. Gunn compared the tone to True Detective.
Paradise Lost – Live Action Series
The title refers to Phil Jimenez and George Pérez’s Paradise Island Lost, which followed a civil war on Themyscira. Gunn and Safran said this series will have a Game of Thrones feeling. No – not the nudity.
“It’s really about the political intrigue behind a society of all women… How did that come about? What’s the origin of an island of all women? What are the beautiful truths and the ugly truths behind all of that? And what’s the scheming like between the different power players in that society?”
Booster Gold – Live Action Series
In the 25th century, Mike Carter uses a time machine on display in the Metropolis Space Museum to travel back in time. He then pretends to be a superhero using basic tech from his time. It’ll be the DCU’s first chance at an out-and-out comedy. Gunn’s description of the show is pretty perfect: “Basically, ‘Booster Gold’ is imposter syndrome as a superhero.”
