Thanks to a new announcement, Naughty Dog studios’ adventure comes to an end. The Uncharted cast rides off into the sunset (officially.)

Naughty Dog’s first game of the PS3 lifecycle was the critically acclaimed Uncharted in 2007. It was heavily inspired by the action and adventure genre – think Indiana Jones. The stories revolved around treasure hunter Nathan Drake and his friends going after lost, mythical treasures. Nothing ever goes as planned and they’re at odds with someone with sinister intentions for the treasure.

The series lasted four main game titles, one spin-off game, one PS Vita game, and recently a movie based on the series starring Tom Holland. Nathan Drake’s story got a satisfying conclusion in 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. And everyone was sure that was the end of it until Chloe and Nadine got their own spinoff in 2017 called Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The game’s ending felt like the beginning of something than the end of a franchise. For those waiting for more to come, it seems Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann has some bad news for you.

“I Don’t Know. I Haven’t Thought That Far Ahead.”

Neil Druckmann recently sat down with Buzzfeed to discuss behind-the-scenes info on The Last of Us HBO show. Things like translating video games to television and what is next for the world of The Last of Us. Druckmann’s answer had an unexpected guest star in the Uncharted series –

“…I know there’s a bunch of people wondering about The Last of Us Part 3 and whether that will be a thing or not. All I could say is, at Naughty Dog we’re very, very privileged that our publisher is Sony — which means Sony funds our games, supports us, and we’re owned by Sony. They have supported us every step of the way to follow our passions — meaning that just because something is successful, people think there’s all this pressure and we have to make a sequel. That’s not the case. For us, Uncharted was insanely successful — Uncharted 4 was one of our best selling games — and we’re able to put our final brushstroke on that story and say that we’re done. We’re moving on.

This statement seems to indicate Druckmann and staff are done with Uncharted games for the foreseeable future. When Naughty Dog is done with a franchise, it sticks to it pretty well. Naughty Dog stopped making Crash Bandicoot titles after Crash Team Racing in 1999 and Jak & Daxter titles after Jak X: Combat Racing in 2005. The only thing that’s different with Uncharted? Neil Druckmann wrote three of the four main Uncharted games, but he had no involvement with Lost Legacy. So this is absolutely the final chapter in Nathan Drake’s story – but it doesn’t feel like one for Chloe and Nadine. If they come up with something worth doing within the world of Uncharted, I could see them coming back once more.

If this is indeed the end of Uncharted, all I can say is I will miss it and it is my personal favorite series Naughty Dog ever created.

Let us know what you think in the comments what you think about Uncharted and if you would have liked another adventure or if it earned its trip into the sunset.
