Netflix’s ‘Sandman’: Desire Actor Mason Alexander Park Reveals Upcoming Filming Date
Mason Alexander Park is all a-flutter with news of Sandman‘s future filming dates – and pointedly said that it’s not a season 2.
We’re all eagerly awaiting the second season of Netflix’s hit adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. We’re still grateful for that extended scene with Dream and Death, but it seems like it’s about time for some production news to trickle in. Well, thanks to actor Mason Alexander Park, we have the next bit of news we… desire.
(I regret nothing.)
Sandman Filming – It’s Not a Season Two
At the San Francisco Fan Expo, YouTuber JunJun Jiang caught a clip of the Sandman panel. There, the Desire actor shared some news about the next filming session of the show that will include more of the Endless. According to Park, filming for the next installment of Sandman will begin sometime this summer. But what was most interesting about their answer isn’t the upcoming film date, but the way Netflix is phrasing the project.
In case you missed it, here’s their full quote–
“Netflix has not gone on record as calling it a Season 2, on purpose. And so, I will, from now on and in the future, and possibly until the end of the universe not refer to it as Season 2 until we know what it is. There is more Sandman coming in a really cool way, and it can take many forms, so we’re starting shooting in the summer, and we’re gonna tackle the next huge chunk of stories in however long that might take. And I’m really excited to share the format of what that might be with everybody eventually.”
What’s Next for Sandman?
The first season of Sandman was released as its own story arc, following along the plotline of the original graphic novels. When the show’s renewal was announced in early November last year, we also got two additional self-contained episodes.
In the story from Dream Country, we met Dream’s former lover and the mother to his son, the ancient muse Calliope. Then we got the beloved short story about a wandering cat preaching about a world run by cats.
If the show continues to follow the path of the books, up next is A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The story is also self-contained, a blast into the Shakespearean past. So it makes sense that we’d expect another stand-alone episode, which could explain why Netflix isn’t calling it a season.
