Star Wars: The Force’s Most Powerful Powers
There are nearly countless ways to use the Force. These are some of our favorite powerful abilities and ways to harness the Force.
The Force is pretty darn cool. If it wasn’t, we all wouldn’t have spent a small part of our childhoods pretending to be Jedi. The abilities we’ve been seeing on screen since the beginning are classic, and some would be pretty overpowered on their own. But as the galaxy has grown, so has the power of the force. Here are some of our favorite way-too-powerful force abilities.
Jedi Mind Trick & Force Illusion & Mind Probe
The Jedi Mind Trick, more formally known as a “Force Whisper” is pretty basic Jedi knowledge for us. It’s the first power we see appear on the screen when Kenobi lets the Storm Troopers know that they’re looking for some other droids. But the practical use for it is anything but basic. Anybody with midichlorians and a little training can subvert another being’s will with just a few words.
But the Force Whisper is just the intro level. A more experienced force user can use the same basics to create Force Illusions. These are basically what they sound like, they allowed Kenobi to blend into his surroundings and hide, or let a Jedi create an entire projected image that looks real. And of course, there is the Mind Probe. Also built off of the same basic building blocks, the Mind Probe lets a Force-user just sort of poke around inside your brain and learn whatever they want.
Force Listening
In a big galaxy with lots of different languages, being able to communicate with anybody is a huge boon. Using Force-sensitive crystals, this technique allows the user to communicate without using the other individual’s native language. It’s been used a few times throughout Legends and Canon alike and it’s one of those abilities that are just plain useful. Of course, you’d think some sort of universal translator contraption would exist by now. But hey, at least we got Jedi.
Revitalize
This is basically your standard tabletop RPG healing spell with a fun twist. Through the Force, a Jedi can revitalize or heal a fallen friend, but the ability has a tendency to leave the healer feeling drained so it has to be used somewhat sparingly. It also requires the healee to be open to the healer and their Force powers, so everybody can’t heal everybody but teammates and friends can almost always heal each other.
Battle Meditation
In a large battle, Battle Meditation is a powerful weapon on a massive scale. In short, one powerful Force user can bring all of their troops under their control and turn the battleground into a very big game of chess. Everything happening is visible to the Force user and with this knowledge they can make all of the tactical decisions for the entire battle in real-time. It seems like too much for one person to organize at once, but through the Force all things are possible, so jot that down.
Sever Force
Remember in The Last Airbender when somebody could have their connection to the spirit world and by extension their bending ability removed? Sometimes the Jedi can do that. This power doesn’t remove the Force from the victim. Instead, it creates a metaphorical wall, blocking the individual’s connection to the Force.
What is your favorite Force Power? Do you prefer the simple, classic powers we see on screen all of the time? Or do you like some of the weirder and more super-powered abilities that we don’t see nearly as often? Is there a power that hasn’t come back from Legends yet that you’re still hoping to see?
