Warhammer 40K: Blood Tithe Points Bring The Pain For World Eaters
We have to talk about the new Blood Tithe Points the World Eaters are getting access to. These things are a game changer.
The World Eaters are coming and they are borrowing a few tricks from their Age of Sigmar counter-parts, the Blade of Khorne. One big trick they are borrowing are the new Blood Tithe Points system. These points can be spent on permanent upgrades for your army and are really simple to generate: Things just have to die.
“BTP are earned in a few ways. First, whenever a unit is completely wiped out, add one to the tally – it doesn’t matter whose unit, whose turn, or what phase it is. You get an extra point at the end of each phase if a VEHICLE, MONSTER, or CHARACTER died, and one more if a TITANIC unit was eradicated. “
That’s right — it doesn’t matter who’s doing the killing or the dying. Each unit wiped out is at least 1 point. If you get bigger kills you get more points. Pretty handy. So what sorts of things can you spend these points on?
Once you’ve got points to spend you can purchase specific Blood Tithe abilities at the rate of one per phase. And these abilities just keep on going and going and going…on account of their Khorne bunny ears.
Blood Tithe Points And You
Here’s an example of one of the power ups you can buy. For 3 BTP, you can get +1 to all your charge rolls for your World Eaters units. Again, that’s the rest of the game!
How about some bigger hitters? Total Carnage is a way to skip the “to wound” roll as long as you’re rolling 6s to hit. And Spiteful Nullification only costs 2 BTP but grants you a 5+ vs mortal wounds. Handy!
But here’s perhaps the BIGGEST game swinger we’ve seen yet:
Yeah…for 6 BTP you get to resurrect Angron back on the board with 8 wounds remaining. Oh and he gets to Warp Strike back in. I’ve already talked about how I’d use him. He’s the best cover that a World Eaters army can have. He’s going to die every game, probably from shooting, but now he’s going to come back and cause even more problems.
Remember, when he goes down, he’s generating 2 BTP immediately. As soon as 4 other BTP are generated he’s going to come back with a vengeance. And 8 wounds might not sound like much but he no longer has to cross the tabletop — he can just pop up with Warp Strike and possibly make a charge!
Blood Tithe Points are going to be a big equalizer for an army that has to hoof it across the board to get to the “safety of melee.” Every unit you lose on the way will help make the rest that much meaner. And once they get into the enemy ranks and you start generating points for killing them, well, it’s an avalanche of blood. That seems appropriate.
Make no mistake the World Eaters are going to get shot up real good. But you’re just going to make them angry.
Do you think Blood Tithe Points will keep the World Eaters in the game or do you think they are a gimmick that won’t pay off?
