Games Workshop has a free rules download today so you can start planning out your own Boarding Action Forces. Prepare for boarders!

We got a small preview of some of the movement changes coming with Boarding Actions already. Today, we’re getting a glimpse of how players will be assembling their Boarding Action Forces. Thankfully, GW has a handy rules download for everyone — regardless of faction — so you can start preparing for your own battles inside a Space Hulk!

via Warhammer Community

“Mustering the right force for a Boarding Action presents its own strategic challenges, as the unique environment revokes access to some of the fastest and biggest units available to most factions. VEHICLESMONSTERSBIKES, and CAVALRY are out, as well as anything with a JUMP PACK or some other way to FLY about. You can also only take a single CHARACTER – no sense risking your whole command corps inside a shadowy space hulk.

Instead, Elites and Troops take centre stage in the new Boarding Patrol Detachment.”

Before you panic about the Boarding Patrol Detachment there are exceptions. Also note that none of these options are compulsory and that Boarding Action games are really designed around 500 points, too. So, again, think smaller and more confined games. So what about those exceptions?

Each Arks of Omen book will contain specific tweaks to Boarding Patrol Detachments for a number of factions, plus an arsenal of Enhancements and Stratagems designed for use in Boarding Actions. To let you get started building your Boarding Patrols right away, the Warhammer Studio has prepared a downloadable Mustering Rules document with each faction’s restrictions and exceptions.”

To give you a set of rules you can start working with GW did provide a rules download. It’s pretty straightforward to use. Just find your faction and check out your rules for Mustering A Boarding Patrol.

Some factions got a pretty simple set of rules while others are slightly more complicated.

These changes make sense for the style of game that is being played. Be sure to read all the bullet points for your faction as they can be exemptions to exemptions. I know lots of folks who have a habit of not reading the entire rule before they get into a rules argument that could have easily been avoided had they continued reading.

Example Boarding Action Forces

In another fun twist, GW also put together some example lists. So let’s see what they have.

Ahh, a classic Ship-to-Ship list. Terminators are well known for their foray into Space Hulks and with the limited points available having some extra bodies around will help keep those corridors covered. At least the Imperial Navy Breachers can scream loud if they are getting killed to warn the Marines where the enemy is.

Here’s a nice brick of bodies from the Astra Militarum. That’s a lot of boots on the deck for sure! With the line of sight changes I’m sure this crowd is going to cause some headaches all around.

Okay…”Plunder Committee” is pretty good. Also, having Prince Yriel on deck is great as he is a Pirate Prince afterall! Also nice to see the Corsairs get some attention, too.

I was kind of hoping to see a Tyranid list but let’s be honest, it’s probably just a bunch of Genestealers, amirite?! Also, check out their rules section…might have a surprise for Synapse in there.
