Warhammer 40K: Boarding Patrol Boxes Announced
Games Workshop is gearing folks up for those Boarding Actions with two new Boarding Patrol Boxes and a new Battleforce!
With Arks of Omen launching now is the perfect time to look into kicking off a new Boarding Patrol detachment. And to get you jump started GW is launching a few new products that will make it super easy to put one together.
“The various factions of the 41st Millennium are now forced to undertake Boarding Actions against these twisted space hulks, with small, elite forces clashing in their claustrophobic confines.
We’ve already discussed what a Boarding Patrol detachment looks like, but if you want to get involved with a fresh force, check out these two new Boarding Patrol boxes. “
Boarding Patrol Space Marines
The Space Marines are gearing up with a versatile Boarding Patrol. Inside it has 5 Heavy Intercessors, 10 Assault Intercessors, and a Captain in Gravis Armour to lead them all. Pointwise, this Boarding Patrol still has around 100 points of wiggle room for extras. You might want to look at some Imperial Breachers to fill your ranks.
Chaos Space Marine Boarding Patrol
Abaddon is leading this Boarding Patrol himself in this new box. The Despoiler is accompanied by 10 Chaos Space Marines and 20 blood sacrifices Cultists. With Abaddon clocking in at 350 points by himself, this box actually goes over the typical 500 point game. You might have to slim down his supporters in a Boarding Action Game. That said, this is a nice seed of a Chaos Force which leads us to the next part of these releases…
Balefleet Battleforce
This Balefleet Battleforce has 10 Possessed, 5 Chaos Space Marine Terminators, a Heldrake, and a new Daemon Prince to lead them all. It could make a nice pairing with that Boarding Action box if you’re looking to get a Chaos Space Marine army filled out. Just tossing that out there. I’m not sure if it would be super competitive but it is a nice spread of models to add to any collection — doubly so if you don’t have them already!
Based on the few tips we know about Boarding Actions so far, I would say that the Marine Box is poised to be a surprisingly effective force — with the right back-up. The Abaddon-led Boarding Action force clearly has a beat-stick on the board, but ultimately it might be a little light on the bodies. He can’t be everywhere at once (unfortunately).
That said, I wouldn’t mind taking him for some sort of narrative or special Boarding Action game. Maybe as a “final boss” sort of fight where you play on a double sized map with 1000 points per side? Just tossing that out there…
What do you think of these 3 new boxes coming? Any favorites?
