The Astra Militarum are getting a new Combat Patrol boxed set this weekend. What sort of a deal can you expect for this one?

With the new Combat Patrol box coming for the Astra Militarum we already broke down the points in the box this week. It’s not a lot…but that’s kind of par for the course for the Astra Militarum. Today we’re going to tackle them from the other direction: cold hard cash. It’s a Combat Patrol so it’s assumed that the price point will be $150. However, GW did announce a price increase coming so it could end up at $160. GW did say that “starter sets” would not be impacted by the price shift but this is a Combat Patrol. Earlier reporting did indicate an increase of $10.

Anyhow, we do know the cost of the kits in the box and we can sort out a $10 shift down below. So let’s crunch some numbers!

Cadian Command Squad $45

10x Cadian Shock Troops $50

10x Cadian Shock Troops $50

Armoured Sentinel $45

Field Ordnance Battery $55

Total Individual MSRP: $245

Total Savings at $150: $95

Total Savings at $160: $85

Considering how many points are in the box this could be a great way to load-up on Guardsmen. You’re going to need a lot of them and this is a “cheap” way to snag them. Regardless of the final price point (either $150 or $160) you’re going to get a deal on the contents. So if you’re looking for a budget-minded Astra Militarum build this is a good option to start with.

Another good idea is to point-out an army ahead of time. You can do this with the Munitorum Field Manual. Getting the points sorted out should help you focus on what you actually need to buy for a 2000 point list. Once you’ve got that sorted out you can figure out which corners to cut and the best way to plan your purchases.

Maybe you want to go with a tank formation so the options in the Combat Patrol wouldn’t be used in your 2000 point list. If that’s the case redirect the cost of the Combat Patrol into something you’ll actually use. You can always shift your plans later.

Baneblades are 430 points to start and cost $170. That’s a more point-efficient purchase if you’re looking purely at dollars-to-points ratio and comparing that to the Combat Patrol. Is it as useful? Depends on what you’re looking to build out at 2000 points!

Guardsmen are points cheap…but maybe not $$$ efficient.
