Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness: Grey Knight Interceptors

Interceptors were always one of the better options in the Grey Knight book. Now they are Meta Hotness must-takes.

While losing Armor of Contempt – Grey Knights did get some serious boosting in the new Dataslate meta due to just having a very discount set of point adjustments.  On top of that, the Arks of Omen Detachment is very forgiving to the army, with the ability to spam out one of their best options and still have the Dreadknight support.  Oh – and all their weapons just got better. Especially when not having to worry about 2+ save Marine bodies sitting in cover like they used to.

Inceptors were always one of the better options in the Grey Knight book.  A jump Marine that wasn’t a jump marine – these guys were fast, hit hard, and just seriously helped the army.  The biggest thing keeping them at bay was the need to have some Troop choices and other options taxing the army a bit.  Now with Arks of Omen Detachments, those taxes are gone, and the army can easily be set up to wreck shop with Jump Marines that could fit in a Rhino.

Interceptors 101

Jump assault marines with a powerful close combat weapon, the ability to do Smite, a movement trick to get an objective or two. Plus, they can fit in a Rhino due to having an upgrade backpack versus a strapped-on jet engine.  These guys do a lot of things for the Grey Knights. Now you can have 30 of them pretty easily with all the upgrades without having to worry about your army bank collapsing into a short-sighted gain.

They Fight Well!

Oh, isn’t it great that Force Swords got scary again?  How about options like fully reroll to hits with one of the Brotherhood options or exploding 6’s to hit?  A ton of attacks that melt thru armor is a hard thing to escape from. Especially when they can jump over that wall and bring the pain to you.

Movement Tricks

Between their jump profile, ability to cast a move spell they auto get, and also having the ability to ride in a Rhino these guys can just book it around the tabletop.  I really think we will see the Rhino Rush coming back as they can get hidden for a turn, combat squad out, and just get ready to jump their way to damage town.  A charge, Mortal wounds on 6’s, and a friendly Dreadknight nearby can spell doom for any enemy in the way.

Adam (“the Grandmaster”) Lane won Da Bolton Waagh at the end of January with the following Grey Knights list – using 30 Inceptors to teleport their way to victory.  Of course, they had Dreadknight help but sometimes you got to bring your kiddos to work – am I right?

Army: The Knights of Titan

Armylist Tips & Tricks

You use these models to pull your opponent because they are small, can move fast, and do some serious damage.  With enough terrain and the ability to hide behind and jump thru walls, they are seriously set up to bring the righteous fury of the Grey Knights to your enemy’s doorstep.  These guys are ready to pounce on unsuspecting troops in a whirlwind of death and destruction.  Just don’t let them get shot up by heavy bolters.
