Line Up for This Blockbusting ‘Tetris’ Merch
Tetris (the movie) drops on streaming this Friday – what better time to commemorate the iconic game with some tangram-covered merch?
Tetris is an unlikely symbol of the Cold War. The game was created by software engineer Alexey Pajitnov – but he didn’t own the rights. The Soviet Union (the government) did – as well as a dozen other companies that claimed to. Getting it to the international market was a wild journey involving everyone from software execs to the KGB. It took more than negotiations and legal battles to get the iconic game bundled with Nintendo’s first handheld.
This new movie follows Bulletproof Software founder Henk Rogers as he puts his company, career, and life on the line to bring Tetris to the world.
The Tetris Effect by Dan Ackerman
I’m betting there was more than one copy of this book in the movie’s writers’ room. This novel tells the story of how an obsession with pentominoes became a video game sensation. Ackerman relies on research and interviews with the people that were there to create a fast-paced narrative you won’t want to put down.
Tetris – Play All Day! T-Shirt
Show some geek pride with this brightly colored shirt celebrating the game’s birthday. It’s available in four colors and sizes small to 6X tall.
Tangram LED Light Blocks
This set of seven multi-colored LED lights is a great desk toy mixed with a mood lamp perfect for any space. Plug in the base cube and watch the blocks light up as you stack them up in multiple configurations. Grab more than one set to create even more complex stacks – just like in the game.
Tetris – The Board Game
Go head-to-head with your friends and family in this fast-paced tabletop game. Score points by completing lines, fulfilling achievement cards, and matching pieces to icons on your matrix. Each round takes around 30 minutes, and it’s rated eight years and up so you can get everyone in on the fun.
Tetris Retro Mini Arcade Game
Work out your thumbs and play the classic on this 5-inch tall arcade machine. It features the original look and sound of the version found in mythical arcades of the 1980s, as well as a working joystick. All you need are three AA batteries, and you’ll be ready to break some records.
