More LotR x Magic Spoilers
One of the things that characterizes the Lord of the Rings as much as anything else, are the long, dangerous journeys the Fellowship undertakes. Going from the warm comfort of the Shire to sundered ruins of a past age, and to the most evil place in Middle-earth. But it all starts somewhere. And the Shire is the perfect place to have roots, as Merry says, the soil of the Shire is deep.
Rich soil allows for the most stouthearted heroes to take root. And few are as faithful or stout as Samwise Gamgee. From eavesdropping interloper to the only one capable of carrying a Ringbearer away from the end of all things, Samwise brings things back from the brink. But as ever, the Ring tempts.
Frodo, Sauron’s Bane is capable of assuming two forms. First, as a Citizen, Frodo can become a Scout, who is a 2/3 with lifelink. Once a Scout, Frodo can become a Rogue who can end the game if the Ring has tempted you four or more times.
One of a few different Ring tempted mechanics we’ll see in play.
We also get a look at some of the humans, such as Faramir and Eowyn, represented here on Reprieve. But only a brief reprieve before venturing into the depths of Mordor, where the shadows lie.
There will you find Mount Doom itself, billowing with smoke and fire. For the cost of a life, it can add mana, and can erupt dealing damage, or basically recreating the ending of Return of the King before the Eagles show up.
Speaking of Mount Doom, here is the Lord of the Rings himself, Sauron, the Lidless Eye. When Sauron shows up, even the wisest will join him, as Saruman the White discovered.
And our spoilers end with a glimpse at the buy-a-box promo card, the Lorien Brooch, which will see a creature through the strangest and direst terrain.
All this awaits in the Lord of the Rings Universes Beyond set, coming soon to Magic: the Gathering.
