Score a Goaaaaal With ‘Catan: Soccer Fever’ Expansion
Soccer is popular the world over, Catan: Soccer Fever proves that the isle of Catan is no exception.
This real and official Catan expansion is the latest of their scenario expansions. These smaller expansions usually add a few minor mechanics to the game without changing the core mechanics too much. Catan: Soccer Fever follows this same philosophy, but is certainly a more interesting addition to the library.
The scenario is currently on pre-order so we don’t know all the details yet. Still, the expansion adds two pitch hexes to the board, 4 balls, and 24 shot tokens. As well as a fold-out pitch, and a separate board for tracking the soccer score and league standings. Plus, the league standings are tracked with some very adorable tokens.
The description details that “Every time you build a settlement or city, it’s soccer match day on the island.” Each player flicks their ball toward the goal, attempting to get their ball to land color side up to score a point. After all, players have made their shots, whoever wins the match will gain bonuses in the main game. Plus, each soccer match victory adds to your running total, with the top league player gaining additional victory points.
The publisher even describes this expansion as “light-hearted” so hardcore Catan players probably won’t be picking this one up anytime soon. However, in a more family-friendly environment, this could go a long way. Flicking things is fun! The pitch folds up and out for easy storage to hold all of the components of the expansion, which is a great space-saving consideration.
