‘The One Ring’ RPG Gets a New Expansion – ‘Tales From the Lone-Lands’
Journey even further into Middle-earth with The One Ring RPG‘s new expansion, Tales from the Lone-Lands, a collection of all-new adventures.
Lord of the Rings is back, baybee. The One Ring RPG’s 2nd edition has been bringing more people into the world of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, Hobbit, and Silmarillion. It helps that Rings of Power and a recent look at redoing the movies are in the air right now. But Middle-earth has been a part of RPGs since the beginning when the Tolkien estate came after TSR for using Hobbits instead of Halflings. No joke.
The inspiration and influence of Middle-earth on this particular niche of the world is undeniable. And there’s a reason The One Ring was such an amazingly successful Kickstarter campaign. Now, their newest expansion, Tales from the Lone-Lands aims to show us all how it’s done.
Tales From the Lone-Lands
Tales from the Lone-Lands is the second expansion for The One Ring RPG. It collects together six brand-new adventures set in the titular “lone-lands.” What are they, exactly? These are the Northwestern expanses of Middle-earth:
Now they had gone on far into the Lone-lands, where there were no people left, no inns, and the roads grew steadily worse. Not far ahead were dreary hills, rising higher and higher, dark with trees. On some of them were old castles with an evil look, as if they had been built by wicked people.
And this expansion is set up to join these lands together over the course of six adventures that can be played individually, or as part of a larger, interconnected tale. Here’s a look at the adventures that await you in the lone-lands:
- A Troll-Hole, If Ever There Was One, and Kings of Little Kingdoms are relatively self-contained adventures, but still hint at a growing danger.
- Messing About In Boats involves directly one member of the Company, in an unexpected way!
- Not To Strike Without Need and Wonder of the Northern World follow the slow infiltration of spies of the Enemy.
- The Quest of Amon Guruthos challenges the heroes to battle an ancient evil.
While no release date has, as of yet, been announced, Free League is typically pretty quick with the “announcement-to-published” timeline. So, the best guess would be later this year, probably somewhere close to August. Even when things don’t debut at Gen Con, its pull is indelible.
At any rate, get ready to venture further into Middle-earth!
Happy Adventuring
