Warhammer 40K: Metawatch Promises Improvements For Deathwatch
Games Workshop has released a new Metawatch article and video. There’s hope for the bottom of the barrel!
We all like looking at data so we can argue about what the results mean, right? You’d think there’s only one way to read a chart like the Metawatch win-rates, but no — sometimes the numbers tell a story but not the whole story. And with as many armies in 40k as there are it’s certainly tough to get everyone on the same page. So let’s take a look at the data and see what GW is looking to push in the future.
“Event attendance is up around the globe – we handled 50% more games in data this February compared with last February, with a similar boost in player numbers. This gives us a clearer and more comprehensive picture of balance, and the good news is that more factions are in that Goldilocks Zone with a win rate of between 45% and 55%. There’s plenty of diversity in event winners too, but Dark Angels and Genestealer Cults are definitely leading the pack.”
At the very top end the Dark Angels and the Genestealer Cults are doing quite well in the latest season/Balance Dataslate pass. Arks of Omen’s battleplans and seasonal rules do seem to help boost those two armies. We also see a few armies from seasons past take a drop towards the bottom — Tyranids in particular skirting the line at 45% win-rate.
But below that line there are only two armies that are really outliers with the Thousand Sons and the Deathwatch. But relief is coming for them in April:
“On the other hand, the Thousand Sons and Deathwatch are languishing at the bottom. That’ll change come April, when the next Balance Dataslate is published (shortly after AdeptiCon).”
Hmm… Interesting! What changes could come for those two armies? I’m guessing some points adjustments. AdeptiCon is going to be the next BIG tournament where hundreds of games will be played with some interesting meta trends could emerge.
