Games Workshop has released some previews of the changes to the Ossiarch Bonereapers and they are finally getting to play Age of Sigmar 3.0!

The Ossiarch Bonereapers are getting a new Battletome and it’s been a long time coming. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the FAQ updates for them from AoS 2.0 to 3.0. And I had a few concerns about issues the army had. But after getting a tease from GW I’m starting to feel cautiously more optimistic.

They have a Battle Report featuring the Ossiarch Bonereapers this week — but it’s not an army that I’d want to construct and it seems like some key things “big names” are missing. But GW did show off a few of the new rules. So let’s take a closer look at those.

Ossiarch Bonereapers 3.0

This is perhaps the biggest change to the army. Relentless Discipline has been changed. Notice that the OBR aren’t using their own version of Command Points and Command Abilities now — they are just generating MORE Command Points. That also means you’ll be able to spend them on the Generic Command Abilities from AoS 3.0. This is what I’m talking about! Finally, OBR are getting to play the same game as everyone else and it’s going to be fantastic. Just by having 7 or more units you’re getting an extra 6 CP. And you’ll get to spend them on a bunch of additional Commands.

Now, this part is a little confusing so I want to use a direct quote here:

“With so many command points to spend, you’ll be glad to hear that the exclusive Ossiarch Commands are back – and bigger than before. There are seven army-wide command abilities, plus a whole range of specific commands on individual units’ warscrolls – it’s a real toolbox, allowing you to boost combat efficiency, mobility, survivability, and more on demand.

Alongside this, the usual restriction on using the same command ability more than once per phase is ignored for these commands – whether they’re army-wide or unit-specific. Let none gainsay your orders!”

So just to be clear, the Ossiarch Commands are going to get to ignore the “once per phase” restrictions and allow you to use the same Ossiarch Commands on multiple units in the same phase. That means you can use Re-Form Ranks from above to retreat and charge with multiple units. And there’s a whole lot more of the Ossiarch Commands to use. I can’t wait to go through the rest of them!

Another big change is the update to Nadirite Weapons. If you played with the previous versions you might recognize this ability…but you need to read it closely. It doesn’t just apply to weapons that have “Nadirite” in the name now…it’s all friendly Ossiarch Bonereapers in the army. That means all your melee attacks (excluding mounts) will have exploding 6’s on hit rolls now.

“Yes, even the shovels and tools of the Mortek Crawler’s crew are now made of nadirite! The only exception is for mounts – alas, your Kavalos steeds are not shod with nadirite horseshoes. ”

I had to do a double take the first time I read this rule and I’m really looking forward to rolling those buckets of to-hit rolls to have them turn into bigger buckets of to-wound rolls.

And yeah…Deathless Warriors is still around and it’s still a 6+ ward. That’s going to work well with Impenetrable Ranks to make them have a 5+ ward. I can’t wait to see what other ways there are to spend those CP with this army!

The final rules teaser is a Grand Strategy and a Battle Tactic. Now, these are presented in a bit of a vacuum because we don’t know what the rest of them are. However, the Grand Stratagey isn’t one that I’d personally go for unless you know which mission you’re playing ahead of time. And the Remorseless Bombardment is specific if you’re using a Mortek Crawler or two in your army. I’m now curious about the damage output of the Crawler and if it can just wipe units off the tabletop solo or not. I doubt it can do it solo…but it had some funky shots before!

The new Battletome is coming soon and these previews seem pretty solid so far. Still curious what the rest of the book holds.

What do you think of these previews for the Ossiarch Bonereapers 3.0 book?
