Goatboy here to talk about how to start a brand new 40K army right now that will be 10th Edition Proof.

With a new edition coming up, it is hard to really think of a true army list for the end of 9th before the actual dataslate update that should be coming.  This has me feeling that instead of trying to build something rough let’s look at ways someone could “start” a new army with what is available.

This means looking at some of the Combat Patrols and Boarding Patrols to see if there is a way to build something decent enough that will hopefully last when 10th comes out.  Thankfully both options seems pretty good when building armies and could be helpful for those thinking of jumping in when 10th finally hits.

Daemons Are Usually New Edition-Proof

I think today will look at the Khorne Chaos Daemons options as both boxed set options for 40K look good and we can even check out the AoS option as well.  The idea of building these out of the get-started sets is great as they are discounted, and with some online searching you can get another discount on top.  This adds up to getting an army fairly easily,  without having to worry about finding a ton of bits and other things when looking at things like Marines and some of their best kits still a part of a big boxed set.

Also, Daemons are one of them nicer armies to paint as they benefit highly from things like Slapchop, Contrast, Speed Paints, and doing whatever scheme you want.  The army is also pretty much plastic too and they can easily flow over into AoS if you don’t enjoy the sheer brutality of 40K.

First grab two of these!

We’ll start with the Khorne 40K Combat Patrol X 2 as it gives you 40 Bloodletters, 20 Fleshhounds of Khorne, 6 Bloodcrushers Khorne, and a Herald of Khorne X 2.  The Second Herald we can put on top of one of the Bloodcrushers to give us a Skullmaster herald which can be fun and interesting to mess with.  Plus it is a simple conversion.

This looks to be $272.00 with the normal 15% discount you find online. Not bad at all!

Two Khorne Combat Patrols

Bloodmaster – 90pts
Skullmaster – 130pts
Bloodletters of Khorne X 10 – 130pts
Bloodletters of Khorne X 10 – 130pts
Bloodletters of Khorne X 10 – 130pts
Bloodletters of Khorne X 10 – 130pts
Flesh Hounds of Knorne X 10 – 150pts
Flesh Hounds of Knorne X 10 – 150pts
Bloodcrushers of Khorne X 5 – 200pts

Now add one of these!

This is 1240pts and a good lock into building a crazy base of Khorne nonsense.  From there will look at the new Boarding Patrol as it gives us a few more options in the Troop department, a good FA, and again a cool Character Herald.  The boxed set is $110.00 with 15% discount which isn’t a bad deal to help fill out some things in the army you have above.

One Khorne Boarding Patrol

Karanak – 90pts
Bloodletters of Khorne X 10 – 130pts
Flesh Hounds of Khorne X 10 – 150pts

This leaves you at 1610 points and gives you the perfect leftover hole to be filled by the grandest of all Bloodthirsters – the Exalted Indomitable Onslaught jerk.  This is a $136.00 dollar boxed set that helps finish out the army and gives you the final Khorne rush of nonsense you have always dreamed of.

Meet the Bloodthirster Boss

Bloodthirster – Indomitable Onslaught – 360pts

This adds up and looks to have cost you around $560.00 dollars total with a 15% discount.  I am sure you can find some things cheaper and try to keep it at 500 dollars but this is a full 2000 point army that is ready to go.  It should be simple enough to paint, play pretty easily, and leave you ready for 10th whenever it comes out.  All of these things should still be viable and I can bet you they will do something Khorne Daemon related in the army detachments.  At the very least there might be a World Eaters/Daemon combo if my dreams come true.

Now We Wait for 10th Edition

While the game can be expensive there are smart ways to “collect” and build up your army.  With a new edition coming, you can still look for these package deals. Especially the Combat Patrols, and push to make that a viable format for those just getting started in the game.  I know we are all waiting with bated breath to see the new rules and I can hope it will come out sooner than later.
