Falcone’s henchman is aiming to take over his dead boss’ business in The Penguin – a new Batman miniseries starring Colin Farrell.

Off the bat (ha) – the universe Director Matt Reeves is creating falls under DC Elseworlds and is not going to be tied in with the big DC Studios timeline. Don’t worry, there won’t be any weird Superman cameos in Penguin‘s gritty world full of criminals and lunatics. This pocket universe is going to tell stories of this Gotham, the shows will fill gaps and explore characters. The miniseries will be tightly linked to The Batman sequel; it’s a foundation.

At the end of The Batman, Carmine Falcone is dead. Oz is left with a criminal empire to run in a city that’s underwater, allowing for all possibilities. Since it’s a bridge, we’ll likely be seeing the reaction the criminal underworld has to Bruce’s alter-ego and the new breed of mask-wearing villains. The show is pulling in some familiar characters from the comics.

“I read the first episode, which is just so tasty and so unusual as the character was on the page and what Matt Reeves kind of envisioned when he was thinking of this iteration of the bang-up of Oz.”

Matt Reeves is the showrunner, and there will be a mix of directors. Based on comments made in past interviews, the miniseries will be around eight episodes.

HBO Max is Now Max

That’s the new HBO Max branding. Yes, that’s the name they decided to go with. No, it’s not good beyond the fact that it’s also my cat’s name.

The announcement of the branding change came with the preview of Penguin, plus a list of new spin-offs. Some familiar shows on the list include Big Bang Theory, The Conjuring, Gremlins, True Detective, Rick and Morty, Tiny Toons. As well as a new telling of Peter and the Wolf.

The one I’m looking forward to: The Hedge Knight (a GoT spin-off) is finally getting off the ground.
