This new Renfield clip makes it clear that under the camp this is still a horror movie. And Dracula is a big fan of blood.

Bad bosses are the worst, but none are quite as horrible as The Prince of Darkness. He really sucks. Along with his dry cleaning and keeping his appointment books, he makes his servants do all sorts of morally questionable things – deliver blood bags to his lair, capture very specific victims, find fabulous red velvet suits, clean up after he explodes into a bunch of bats, etc.

Dracula is a demanding narcissist you can’t say no to if you want to live. And that’s what Renfield longs to do after centuries of service – live his own life. He wants out. But can he do what it takes to earn his freedom from his monstrous boss?

Nicolas Cage is the perfect Dracula for this workplace drama. He’s put a lot of thought into his portrayal, telling ScreenRant

“Well, Dracula is a character which I don’t know how to say no to. I mean, I’m a very enthusiastic reader, particularly with Bram Stoker’s Dracula. And then, of course, the portrayal of Dracula when it’s been done well as a film enthusiast in the movies. So, to me, it was a marvel of the true sense of the word.

“I thought, ‘This could be a heck of a lot of fun. And what can I contribute to this?’ Because you want to be on the side of doing something well with the Dracula character because it’s been done many, many times. And I would say it’s been done well, but the lion’s share of the time, it’s been done poorly, and you want to be on the side of something well. So my process was really looking at the movies again, Langella, Oldman, Lugosi, and Lee, and then sort of cherry-picking what I admire. What I could learn from those performances as a sort of jumping-off point or a starting point. And then it really left that.”

Renfield Clip Brings the Gore

Nicolas Cage’s take on the iconic bloodsucker and the madness of it all has been a big part of the movie’s hype – rightly so. While its campy tone is a big draw, Universal would like to remind you that this is a horror movie about a vampire. There will be blood. Lots and lots of blood.

In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula. Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased.
