Star Wars: The Five Speeders We Want to Test Drive
Every ear of Star Wars has speeders that we’d like a chance to take out for a test ride. These are some of our favorites.
The speeders of Star Wars just look fun. Sure we have cars and motorcycles in our world, but speeders hover. It may be silly, but it’s as good a reason as any to watch Star Wars while thinking, “I wish we could hop on one of those,” and I think we’re all on the same page about that. There are also a lot of speeders throughout the galaxy. It may be hard to choose between favorites, but these are some of our top picks for test drives.
Rey’s Speeder
It’s big, it looks like a box, and it’s not from anyone’s favorite trilogy. But Rey’s speeder is still pretty neat. Custom built from scavenged scrap parts, it’s a bit of a chimera and very unique. This speeder is also made specifically to be fast and hearty. Rey’s constantly lugging around heavy loads of scrapped starship harts, and her ride needs to be able to hold up. And while we don’t see this speeder for very long, it made an impact.
FC-20 Speeder Bike
Another speeder that looks a bit silly, the FC-20 was most notably ridden by Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace. Maul’s was modified heavily to remove any weapons or sensors, making it an especially fast FC-20. But even the more standard builds are known for being very maneuverable, hard to track, and a popular transports among assassins. Plus, unlike some other speeders, it has some very comfortable looking-back support.
Joben T-85 Speeder Bike
Named after the famous swoop racer, Thall Joben, the T-85 speeder bikes appear quite a few times throughout Rebels and The Clone Wars. To our early eyes, they look the most like regular motorcycles, but without wheels and with the signature hovering abilities. Both Kanan Jarrus and Ahsoka Tano used these speeders, and with their quickness and small-ish profile it makes a lot of sense why they would.
Cobb Vanth’s Speeder
Another custom speeder, Cobb Vanth’s ride is very cool. Made from a modified 620C podracing engine, this thing is one of a kind and faster than a race car. Eagle-eyed fans may notice parts that look very similar to pieces of Anakin’s own podracer, and who knows? It just may be! The Marshal needs something a little special to keep the peace on Tatooine and get from place to place in a hurry, and a modified podracer engine is going to do just that.
74-Z Speeder Bike
Used throughout the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War, you likely remember the 74-Z Speeder Bike as the speeder that a bunch of Storm Troopers flew into trees on Endor. Stormtrooper ineptitude aside, these were pretty great speeders. They were most often used for combat reconnaissance and were capable of jamming close-range commlinks. In the universe, the 74-Z had one of the longest production runs of any speeder. And in our world, this was the first speeder bike to really capture all of our imaginations.
What’s your favorite Star Wars speeder? Do you prefer when they look similar to real-world vehicles, or when they have an entirely unique design? Would you buy a speeder, or make your own? Let us know in the comments!
May the Force be with you, adventurers!
