Games Workshop is showcasing a trio of units from the upcoming Leviathan Starter Box for Warhammer 40,000: 10th Edition.

There’s even more goodies on the way from Games Workshop inside the Leviathan Starter Box. We saw the Tyranids and the Space Marine forces. Now we’re getting a closer look a the rules for a few of the new units coming to the tabletop.

Space Marine Infernus Squad

The Infernus squad is packing the newfangled Primaris version of a flamer: Pyreblasters. These weapons are particularly nasty against most soft targets. If you need to eliminate a horde of infantry quickly this unit has the fire-power to do it!

Just looking at the stats that going to be a whopping 10D6 shots at strength 5 that all auto-hit. Combine it with the “Purge the Foe” ability and you’ve got a really strong chance of breaking a squad immediately after shooting it. Also worth noting is the have the Grenades keyword…I wonder if that means GW is moving Frag/Krak to some other ability or weapon trigger.

Screamer-Killer

This iconic beast is back with a massive new look and a datacard to match! This is our first real look at a true monster from the new edition. If you were wondering how monsters were going to stack vs vehicles, well, check out that statline:

Toughness 9 with a 2+ save and 10 wounds? That’s as tough as a Rhino with a better save, too. And while it’s not a fast as one a Rhino sure isn’t packing the same punch as the Screamer-Killer!

First up we have it’s classic Bio-plasmic scream which is both assault and blast. It’s got a decent 18″ range with D6+3 shots. It’s only a BS of 4+ but if it connects with the Strength 8 hits it’s going to sting at AP -2. And the Screamer-Killer’s shots also cause a Battle-shock test with a -1 modifier on that check!

Up close, it gets even more work done with an intimidating 10 attacks that hit on 3+ with at a strength of 10 and AP -2! If you were wondering how Tyranids were going to deal with armor I think you just got an answer. Each attack is also a possible 3 damage flat — it’s going to pop a can open and devour the contents!

Ballistus Dreadnought

Now if you were wondering how the Space Marines were going to deal with the Screamer-Killer in the box I think you just got the answer to that question!

This is one tough can to pop! The Ballistus is certainly going to give the Screamer-Killer a run for its money in the durability department. Can it put out enough fire to put the beast down though?

Attack-wise it’s going to pump out some shots for sure and it’s all accurate fire, too. We get a look at the Ballistus weapons like the missile launcher and lascannon. It’s nice to see the Lascannon is at AP -3 and does a minimum of 2 damage per wound. At least a single shot will drop a Space Marine when you inevitable roll that “1” on the damage die. It happens to all of us.

We also get a look at how 10th is going to handle units degrading in combat under the abilities section. While the Ballistus has 1-4 wounds remaining it’s going to get a flat -1 to hit rolls. Simple and straightforward.

Your first crack at these new models will be the 10th edition starter box Leviathan!

What do you think of these units and their statlines and abilities?
