‘Warhammer 40K’ Smashes Into ‘World of Tanks’ In New Crossover Event
Warhammer 40K crashes the party with an exclusive tank and more.
World of Tanks is an incredibly popular multiplayer game themed around specifically armored vehicles combat. It was first released back in 2010 on PC as an open beta and then officially released in 2011. The game exploded in popularity and even got a comic written by Garth Ennis called World of Tanks: Roll Out. Thanks to the enthusiasm fans had for the game, it was eventually ported to consoles starting with the Xbox 360. And eventually to the current-day popular consoles such as the Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.
The game also has had a number of crossovers with things like Valkyria Chronicles, WWE, and GI Joe: A Real American Hero. The game is about to get another epic crossover starting soon for console players.
The Leman Russ
World of Tanks is currently doing a season called Gladiators, lasting between April 11th to June 5th, and announced that the game will be adding a special Warhammer 40K crossover to the season. This new special event will run from May 2nd to June 6th.

This isn’t the first time Warhammer 40K has crossed over to World of Tanks with being a huge part of Season VIII. This will, however, be the first time an actual vehicle from the series will be in the game. The crossover will be adding the console-exclusive Warhammer tank: the Leman Russ. The Leman Russ heavy tank has been recreated in cooperation with Games Workshop to assure its accuracy.
The tank looks fantastic and will, of course, be part of the Heavy Tanks class when playing.
Inspired by 40K Tanks, New Commanders, and More
During the event, players can get five new Premium tanks inspired by the Warhammer 40K universe. The tanks are the Nemesis Tank Destroyer, Teefbreaka Light Tank, Reaper’s Scythe Medium Tank, and the Ignis Purgatio Medium Tank. Each of the tanks is covered in various references to the series and painted to match the faction they are based on.
The other content coming to the event are two new 3D Hero Commanders, Volusad Thassius of the Ultramarines and Patricia Laserian of the Sisters of Battle. Plus, six new 2D Standard Commanders. The commanders are part of a special massive two-stage community event where players will align themselves with either the Space Marines or the Sisters of Battle. Players then will team up to fight Orks and the forces of Chaos for special in-game content depending on which forces are defeated by the player. Players are allowed to change what side they choose in the second stage of the event. Players can fight for both the Space Marines and Sisters of Battle; that way, they can always come out on top.
Bringing Characters to Life
The voiceovers for the new 3D Hero Commanders were directed by Jason Baughan. He has worked on things like Hitman 2, Fable, and LEGO Star Wars. 330 lines of dialog for the Commanders Volusad Thassius of the Ultramarines and Patricia Laserian of the Sisters of Battle were recorded under his guidance to bring them to life and establish the tone of Warhammer 4ok for players. Daniel Burr, Live Game Director for World of Tanks, had this to say about the experience-
“I’m proud of this project in all aspects really, but if I had to choose just one to highlight, it would be the voice-overs for the commanders. We’ve set a new bar for ourselves in terms of quality: hearing your Ultramarine commander or your Battle Sister commander praising your victory in combat really elevates the gameplay experience.”
World of Tanks is a wonderful multiplayer game that has lasted much longer than many multiplayer-based games dream of doing. If you are a fan of Warhammer 40K and tanks, there isn’t a better time to try it than now.
