Warhammer 40K: The State of the Galaxy At The Start of 10th Edition
Need a quick primer/recap of the state of the galaxy at the start of Warhammer 40,000: 10th Edition? Games Workshop has you covered.
The Indomitus Crusade continues, the Lion returns, and Abaddon and his new Chaos Demi-god “ally” Vashtorr the Arkifane wreak havoc on the Imperium Nihilus. And there’s so much more going on around the rest of the grimdark galaxy. If you’re a returning Vet or a brand new 40k player and you want to get caught-up on the basic state of things you’ve come to the right place.
State of the Galaxy in 10th Edition
“There is only war” is how the saying goes. And that much continues to be true in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Humanity is beset from all sides as the forces of chaos and xenos armies run amok all over the galaxy. The Necrons are still causing issues in the Nephilim Sector, the T’au are taking ground in the Startide Nexus, the Orks are WAAAGH!!!ing all over the place, and the Aeldari? Well…they have actually been relatively silent. But the biggest threat still looms as the Tyranids are launching a massive invasion on the western galactic front.
Remember when the Cicatrix Maledictum was the biggest problem? Ahh yes, simpler times…
The Segmentum Pacificus is under assault from this new tendril of attack and it appears that it’s Hive Fleet Leviathan once again. This attack basically puts the galaxy in the massive jaw of the Tyranid beasts now that it’s under attack from both sides. The actual scale of such an attack (and Hive Fleet) is hard to truly imagine!
With Abaddon and Vashtorr successful(ish) in their great scheme and Angron cut loose on the Galaxy it’s a really bad time for the Imperium now that they have to mount a defense against this new threat. And it not like the other Tyranid Hive Fleets are gone, either! Those invasions are also still on going.
So what does the Imperium have going for it? Well, Roboute Guilliman is still leading the Indomitus Crusade and the Primaris Marines are rolling out to respond to these threats. Plus, Lion El’Jonson has returned to aid the Dark Angels and the Fallen — or should we call them the Risen/Forgiven now? How the Lion’s return and impact on the state of things remains to be fully explored. Plus the Blood Angels and a recently Primaris’d Dante are holding their own, too.
The Astra Militarum is responding the threats on the Western Front and Lord Solar Leontus is leading the charge there. Recently reinforced with new weapons of war and wargear the Imperium is attempting to hold the line against the Tyranid Fleets. Are they truly unending or can the defenders hold out long enough to curb the swarm?
That’s the State of the Galaxy at the start of Warhammer 40,000: 10th Edition. It’s a battle for survival and the galaxy hangs in the balance. Personally, I do wonder if the creatures of the Immaterium (aka the Warp/Chaos dameons) are going to help fight against the Tyranids or if they are cool with the discord their attack sows. What happens if the Tyranids eat everyone? Will there be any psychic energy left for the warp to exist or will it also go dark as the Shadow in the Warp consumes everything?
We’ll get to fight these epic battles and answer those very questions soon enough! 10th edition is right around the corner!
