What Star Wars Celebration Told Us About ‘Ahsoka’, ‘Acolyte’, & Other Series
From Ahsoka to The Acolyte, there were tons of TV series announcements at Star Wars Celebration and we’re here to break them all down.
Star Wars Celebration 2023’s show in London came to a close yesterday, and it was a weekend full of big announcements. Not least of which was the collection of upcoming Star Wars TV series. Here’s what we know learned about the Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Andor‘s second season, and more.
Ahsoka
Ahsoka announcements were definitely a highlight of the weekend with a trailer, a first look at the cast in their costumes, character reveals, and an August 2023 release. Those of us at home got the tiniest peek at Lars Mikkelsen’s live-action Thrawn while attendees of the convention itself saw a little bit more, and we even got a pretty direct hint of what’s to come with an Heir to the Empire name-drop.
The Acolyte
We also learned a little more about The Acolyte, but with a 2024 release scheduled, we didn’t get quite as much information available as Ahsoka. Series creator Leslye Headland describes the story as “Kill Bill meets Frozen,” which is a concept just bonkers enough to have me intrigued. It takes place during the High Republic, near the same time on the timeline as the beginning prequels, and will be told from the perspective of the Sith. They’ll be this show’s underdog and challenge the status quo.
Andor
Andor is officially getting a second season and we can expect to see this season in August 2024! This isn’t exactly news to anyone; anybody could have guessed that the massive popularity of Andor would land it a season two. But it is already underway as of November and will be on our TVs next year. We’ve heard in the past that Andor was written to be a two-season show with the second season bringing us right up to the beginning of Rogue One on the galactic timeline.
The Bad Batch
The latest animated show in The Clone Wars family is The Bad Batch. And while it hasn’t been the galaxy’s best, or most consistent show, the characters are beloved and season two ended on a note that demanded a conclusion. And a conclusion is exactly what we’ll get. The Bad Batch will get a third and final season to wrap up everybody’s story and complete the galaxy’s translon into the Galatic Empire. I’ve seen some sadness over the approaching ending of The Bad Batch, but personally, I think this is good news. When shows don’t have goals or endgames in mind they can drag on forever and seem to meander around the galaxy. I don’t want that for Clone Force 99. I want to see this story come to a meaningful conclusion, and if there’s a spinoff hidden somewhere in there, that will be a treat for future us.
Star Wars: Visions Volume 2
We knew that more Star Wars: Visions was on the way as well as the list of international animation studios involved. And Volume Two will have an absolute powerhouse of talent involved, just like Volume One did. A trailer was released yesterday
Skeleton Crew
We don’t have a date aside from 2023, but we did get the first teaser trailer for Skeleton Crew. Starring Jude Law and a cast of younger actors, this series is supposed to be Goonies inspired, but the trailer makes it look a little darker and more serious than that. We will have to wait for more information on Skeleton Crew. But in the meantime, it’s looking promising.
Tales of the Jedi
Tales of the Jedi is yet another show officially getting a second season. And I think this is great news. The first season was interesting and thoughtful. It gave us a look at the galaxy and Jedi order that we don’t often see. Will season two also follow Ahsoka and Count Dooku? Or will we instead focus on two other characters whose stories deserve more screen time? We will have to wait and see.

May the Force be with you, adventurers!
