WizKids and NECA Bring Back Classic D&D Cartoon Action Figures
Two classic D&D Cartoon heroes will soon have amazing 7 inch action figures, thanks to a partnership with WizKids and NECA.
WizKids and toymaker NECA unveiled two new action figures today. Taken straight from the classic 80’s D&D cartoon, these new “ultimate action figures” are 7-inch scale recreations of both heroes and villains.
And in a recent press release, WizKids unveiled the Ultimate Strongeart and Ultimate Zarak action figures. Both will be available later this year, and feature extensive articulation. Let’s take a closer look.
New D&D Cartoon Ultimate Action Figures – Zarak and Strongheart
For the unfamiliar, these two characters were both in the cartoon and were part of the original line of D&D action figures. After all, the D&D cartoon came about in the 1980s, when cartoons couldn’t exist without first having a toyline to base them around. And D&D was no exception.
Strongheart was a stalwart Paladin, a mighty hero of Valor’s Call. He was once a good friend of the fiend Warduke before he fell to evil. And the two were just good friends. Maybe they were roommates.
Zarak, on the other hand, was a Half-Orc Assassin, created for the toyline, but who later appeared in episodes of the cartoon. He also appears in Wild Beyond the Witchlight: A Feywild Adventure, along with other characters, including Strongheart. As a fiendish assassin, Zarak seeks only gold and wields poisoned blades and backstabs.
Both of these figures come with multiple accessories, as you’ll see throughout. And with NECA’s extraordinary attention to detail, there’s a surprising amount of articulation. Each figure has a minimum of 20 points of articulation, thanks to the hand and digital sculpting involved in creating these figures.
They are currently slotted for a release in late 2023, aiming at a September window. Pre-orders aren’t open as of yet, but when WizKids announces something, it’s generally only a matter of time before they go up.
In the meantime, enjoy the preview images. And decide for yourself if you want to collect Valor’s Call or the League of Malevolence. Or both, and a handy set of those plastic cubes that they used to keep around to knock over during action figure commercials in the 80s. If you’re going to recreate the glory days, may as well go all the way, yeah?
At any rate, these are set to release in September and will join the other D&D characters in the Ultimate Action Figure series from WizKids and NECA.
