The Free Cities of Sigmar are having a recruitment drive in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. This Freeguild Marshal is the latest to join up!

Games Workshop is getting closer to releasing the Dawnbringer Crusades. How do we know? Because 1) that’s how time works but more importantly 2) GW is showing off painted models. That’s a big step and good sign. We’re beyond the 3D renders step and on to the models in glorious painted plastic mode. We’ve seen a few minis already but now we’re getting a look at the Freeguild Marshal and his little buddy.

“The finest officers amongst the Dawnbringer Crusades are all trained by the military academies of their respectives cities, but few have hit the books as hard as Freeguild Marshals. Each is a master tactician and a veteran combatant, and they bring these hard-won lessons to bear on the battlefield. “

The Marshal certainly looks like he’s got the authority of the Free Cities behind him. He’s also got both a tactical rock and a skull on his base. With the addition of the warhammer he’s wielding it doesn’t get much more Warhammer than that, folks! I do like the armor details he’s got and I also appreciate the artist’s work on the cape to make it more impressive.

In case you were wondering who his buddy was, that’s a Relic Envoy.

“The Relic Envoys who accompany these commanders are hand-picked from the finest squires of the next generation of soldiers. These brave attendants risk their lives to run orders through the heat of combat, bringing their Marshal’s will directly to the front lines. “

These Relic Envoys carry some strange artefacts with them into battle. Some are family mementos and in the case above it’s possibly a mummified head that can still whisper advice to the bearer. Creepy.

Additionally, this isn’t the only way to construct the Freeguild Marshal. There’s a few other options you can swap out depending on the look you’re going for:

With three different head options and three sets of weapons to choose from you’ll be able to customize this model so that it’s got the right look and load-out for your army…whenever the Dawnbringer Crusades arrive that is.
