Age of Sigmar: More Things I Hope Dawnbringer Crusades Get

When your Dawnbringer Crusade is heading off to form a new city for Sigmar, you need the best equipment, warriors, and mounts you can find.

Being a mortal in Age of Sigmar isn’t easy. Between Chaos raids, roving bands of Greenskins and Ogors, and the ever-present threat of the Undead, it’s a struggle just to get up and go about your day. So you can imagine it takes a special sort of bravery to venture outside the established cities. That’s exactly the sort of plucky heroes that make up the new Dawnbringer Crusades army (Cities of Sigmar, we hardly knew ya), coming soon to AoS. We’ve seen a few of the leaders and units headed our way later this year, but we know there’s a lot more on the way. The Realms are harsh, and the Crusades will need to bring their A-game.

New Beasts

The Cities of Sigmar have always had some of the coolest beasties around. Griffins, Demigryphs, and the mighty Steam Tank are all gorgeous and thematic units, to say nothing of how hard they hit the enemy. However, traipsing into the wilds of the Realms requires more lithe creatures. I’m hoping the new battletome will showcase that. Maybe Sigmar will be kind enough to gift some Gryph Chargers to his mortal followers, but even if he doesn’t, there are a lot of fun beasts that would make awesome Dawnbringer mounts. Elk, wolves, or any number of large creatures could carry the Crusades to victory.

Wood Aelves

The Dawnbringer Crusades are heading out into the wild world, and they’ll need guides to keep them on the right track. For my money, there’s no better choice for that than the Wood Aelves of old. The Wanderers are very fun, but they aren’t the deadly hunters of the Old World. Wood Elves were always one of my favorite armies. They were able to fade in and out of the woods with their enchanted arrows and rain death on the enemy from afar. We get a suggestion of this old power in the Sylvaneth, but it isn’t the same. Hopefully, Sigmar reaches out to some of his old contacts to get the true Wood Aelves back to lead his crusades, especially if they arrive on the back of powerful stags.

New Magic

Cities of Sigmar are not really known for their magical prowess, but they are unique in the sheer NUMBER of lores they can learn. They should be commended on their ability to adapt their magic to the Realm they live in. That being said, I want to see a new breed of Battle Mages with exploratory magic. Mages focusing on keeping their allies on the right path or speed-clearing forests would be a fun addition to the army. Even a few Shadow mages to obscure their allies wouldn’t be remiss.
