D&D: Five Magic Potions Worth Quaffing in That Coiffure
Magic potions in D&D are great. Especially once you start thinking outside the box with potions that do more than just heal your wounds.
Magic potions are a staple of fantasy adventures of all stripes. From potions that will make you big to potions that will lift you up (even if Wonka gets mad at you), you can find a wide variety of drinks that will blast your baja.
Why then does anyone only ever care about healing potions? Maybe it’s video games. After all, “red potions for health, blue for mana”, is practically coded into our DNA by now. But there are so many exciting potions in D&D. Here’s just a sampling of some of our faves.
Potion of Animal Friendship
This spell lets you befriend all animals for the next hour after you drink it. And it’s the animal friendship spell, no less, which means you can convince the animal to do something for you, perhaps. If you have a way of speaking with them.
Potion of Gaseous Form
Sometimes you really need to get out of wherever you are. Drink this potion and you become a cloud. And while you’re in cloud form, you’re basically immune to everything and can escape out of any place that isn’t airtight. The only danger you’re in is someone mistaking you for Crebain from Dunland.
Potion of Maximum Power
As long as we’re taking potions straight from video games, why not take this one? It lets you automatically do maximum damage with a spell of 4th level or lower.
Potion of Giant Size
When you drink this potion, you become extremely strong. Your strength score changes, becoming either 21, 23, 25, 27, or 29 depending on what you pick. Combine this with someone that has Powerful Build – you can move literal mountains.
Potion of Dragon’s Majesty
Reject humanity, be a dragon. Drink this potion and you transform into a dragon for an hour. What would you do if you were a dragon? Now’s your chance to find out.
Happy adventuring!
