‘Dead by Daylight’ 7th Anniversary Adds Iron Maiden Cosmetics, Nicolas Cage, & More
Dead by Daylight to add new survivors, killers, and more to the series.
Dead by Daylight is an asymmetric multiplayer horror game that came out in 2016 and blasted off thanks to streamers. The game was developed by Behaviour Interactive inspired by slasher movies. Players play as 4 survivors who have to work together to get away from a killer controlled by another player. All the maps are procedurally generated with dozens of different locations, so teamwork is key to surviving. Meanwhile, the killers have to rely on their different skills to get a hold of the survivor players and win.
The series is celebrating its 7th anniversary this year and had a special stream to talk about everything planned for the series. The team has revealed the game has yet to peak!
Despite All My Rage, I’m Still Just Nicolas Cage
This announcement originally came before the stream started and is one of the most exciting reveals for the game. Nicolas Cage is joining the game as a survivor on July 5th and did all the voicework for the game personally. So there are no worries that any soundalike voicework was needed. The game director, Mathieu Cote, spoke about Cage’s performance –
“He’s got such an iconic voice and delivery. We couldn’t do this without him…In some cases, for the screams and grunts, we have used different people sometimes because these are extremely strenuous exertions, and they can take a toll on people. But in this case, Mr. Cage told us there has never been a voice sound-alike for Nic Cage, and we will not have one now. So he was generous enough to record every single grunt, scream, and exertion that you will hear in Dead by Daylight.”
Be prepared to find out more about him as the release date gets closer.
Space: The Final Murder Frontier
Horror movies that start on Earth rarely go to space. Usually, it is seen as the moment the series has jumped the shark but I find it to be where they aren’t afraid to do whatever. Dead by Deadlight is going to the stars and a new killer will be joining you for the ride. End Transmission is the next chapter of the game with a new killer, survivor, and will be releasing June 13.
The killer for the game is an AI known as “The Singularity” and story-wise is hunting down a technician named Gabriel Soma, whose crew was slaughtered, on a remote planet called Toba Landing. Rogue AI is a classic sci-fi trope and its design is one of the more horrifying ones the game will have.
Creative Director, Dave Richard had this to say about the announcement-
“We’re thrilled to push the fear of the unknown to new heights with End Transmission…With this new Chapter we are expanding the bounds of The Entity’s reach and exploring dark themes of advanced technology and I think this will be a very frightening experience for all players.”
Upcoming Cosmetics
The game will also be receiving new cosmetics inspired by the bands Iron Maiden and Slipknot with their own packs. Iron Maiden’s pack will be inspired by their mascot Eddie and Slipknot’s pack will be inspired by the members of Slipknot.
There will also be a pack called “Artists from The Fog Collection” that will be based on designs by the community from all over the world as well as Ikumi Nakamura. Nakamura worked for Bethesda before and has designed some unique outfits for The Oni, The Legion, and Yui Kimura.
Fans of Behaviour Interactive’s past work also should be happy to know The Trapper will be getting a “Naughty Bear” outfit for use. It is always fun for studios to celebrate their past.
The Future of Dead by Daylight
The devs also announced the future of the series past End Transmission and Nicolas Cage. Their roadmap teases new in-game events, Tomes, and tons of improvements to make the game more balanced based on player feedback. Joining the series will be 2 new unannounced licensed killers, 3 more new chapters, and 2 survivor-centric chapters. Year 8 is shaping up to be a bloody good time for the main title.
The Future of the Series
Last but not least is the future of the series itself. Dead by Daylight will be getting 2 new spin-off titles. One of the games will be developed by Supermassive, who is best known for Until Dawn, and it is described as “an intense narrative experience filled with powerful life-or-death choices set within the backdrop of Dead by Daylight.”
The second spin-off will be a PvE multiplayer game from Midwinter Entertainment and is described as going to “tackle themes of greed and lust for power, with teams of up to 4 players taking on a strange new corner of The Entity’s Realm.” There is no release info or anything for either and more info will be revealed in the future the devs promised.
They also confirmed that the comic series with Titan Comics will be released in June alongside End Transmission. Lastly, the movie announced by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse earlier this year is currently looking for a director and screenwriter, so don’t expect much from it soon.
Dead by Daylight making it to 8 years worth of planned content is an incredibly impressive feat with many live service games not being able to make it past 1 year nowadays. Just goes to show that the horror genre has legs no matter what the media is,
